I had had bruises from needles before,it's a fact of life,and nothing to bitch about,these poooor downtrodden patients should be in a system where they have to pay for everything THEN they MIGHT have cause to complain.
Hope your union will back you lass ,but don't hold your breathe,from my own ,and the wifes working for the national health service experience,they are toothless dragons and will probably run a mile at ther first sign of trouble.

Our daughter had Hodgkins in 2005 and had to have six months chemo of treatment every two weeks ,Like me she has very deep veins that are hard to find ,some weeks they had no end of problems finding a vein that wouldn't collapse half way through her chemo session of 4 different drug input .the last one being the radio active one that had to be drip fed and shielded from all light ,The nurses had no end of problems getting the right vein ,so much so they considered putting a permanent line in . On her LAST chemo session her veins in both arms really didnt want to take any more and they had to call an anaesthetist to do to the honours.
Only telling all this cos she often had many bruises from failed attempts to get the veins to accept yet another invasion .

Surely if there had been complaints of your procedures they had to give you verbal warnings then written ones before giving you notice.
Depend though on your contract

I am a lucky one with good veins right near the surface.When I donate blood it tends to flow a bit quick lol Have never had a bruise.But that is just me .I have had to take blood many many times as a Renal Nurse(Not one now).Some people bruise badly however good you are!!!!

Do people have blood taken and *not* get bruised arms??

Once when I was young, after some poor nurse had been poking around in my arms for blood, I mused as how I'd never tried to give blood. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, she said.

Another once tried to get blood out of my left arm. She was excavating around and I'd been in considerable pain from her efforts for a while, and I had just formed a fist with which to punch her in the head, when she struck blood. Nobody ever tries to get blood from my right arm, I said. I'm not just anybody, she said. Now her, two weeks' notice would have been too good.

A tip a lab tech finally gave me last year -- drink water an hour before having blood taken. It works.

Don't know if that is a good enough reason for them getting rid of you. Have you talked it over with someone. How long have you worked for them, was it just on a trial basis. Thought they have proceedures for patient complaints and that you have to have at least two verbals and a written before they do anything? depends on how long you have been there, but thought it was the same for any job regardless of how long you have been there.

You need to sit down with your contract,was it a trial or more permanent

Your luck has to change soon Ros, had you felt you didn't fit in, or were you comfortable with the place and your colleagues?

FGS what planet are these people on, Ros? When I've been for a blood test, or a jab, quite often I've had a bruised arm, but I haven't made a fuss about it!! Jeez, the sayiing "there's nowt as queer as folk" really does ring true sometimes!
Try and remember it's their loss, though it's easy to forget that when the job helps pay the bills.

I suppose there is a clause in your contract which says they can give you 2 weeks notice, if not maybe they should pay you upto 9th July.

Excellent points about applying pressure etc - I haven't got a lot of strength in my left hand so when I give blood usually the nurse will offer to apply pressure for me over where I donated (I can do two fingers but not three).

The first time I gave blood I had a bruise on my arm like somebody had wiped charcoal across me but I thought that was just what was meant to happen. (Your veins sound like mine, Shirley - I always look at the mark after I've given blood and wonder how they ever worked out that there was a vein there.)

Hi Rosalyn, I guess you are a phlebotomist? ( Is that how you spell it??)

A doctor from a private hospital came to our surgery and took my blood the last time I had a test: the bruise was huge and very spectacular. I didn't complain because I know these things happen.

well i often get a bruised arm after having blood taken Its par for course with me cos my veins are deep set and difficult to find. Only my left elbow crease has a vein thats slightly visible so its that one that has to do the business Big deal , bruises soon heal .i gave blood for many years as a donor and knew it would mean a bruise But Hey Ho !!

FGS..bruised arms..how shocking!!....not!! Did they apply the pressure themselves? Did they make the puncture bleed after they left the surgery? Wouldn't surprise me at all.
