Our local As** superstore had totally run out of them yesterday, apart from a few sorry looking sweet potatoes..... not a Jersey Royal, a Maris piper or a King Edwards, not a baker or a fryer, or one suitable for mashing... I have never heard of that happening before, has anyone else?

I mean, potatoes??

Told you, there are sieges planned in secret and those 'in the know' are buying in panic.

I am expecting a foreign army to invade our local town and take control of all food shops within the hour.

Jac I am hoping that R has bought some on his way home... I have three left, lol!! I like rice and pasta, but he doesn't.......... I have found that the Jerseys haven't been so nice this year..... but thought it was just my taste buds still playing up... still can't drink water, even bottled!!

And we didn't plant any... the veggie garden is about to be constructed... we have got a couple that we shoved in some of the borders though...... nowhere near ready yet.

Aw, LWH... share, pretty please, lol

Aunty Bessie does do rather tasty frozen roasties (at a pinch of course, me being the domestic goddess type person I like to think I am!)

It must be a transportation problem I suspect - is the border open, or have there been skirmishes not reported in the press?

MrDaff Report 22 May 2009 18:28

Wmsl.... I bet it was our jaunt across the bridge into England yesterday... they closed all the borders to stop us trying to get back again cos I went on a shopping spree, lol!! Too late though.... I'm home!!

West Wales is under siege though, Sue M says... not that they were telling her.... she's worked it out for herself, lolol

Our allotment ones won't be ready for a while yet.................they are earlies and we live on the south coast, so Mel's must be last years I think.

*passes Daff 2 leftover baked spuds*

Jac

Jac Report 22 May 2009 18:42

don't touch em Daffers!!!

Errrr..................hello Kitty................nice Spud-u-like thanks.

I think Mel's spuds are last year's crop also - nothing wrong with that of course - that's why we grow them - all year round spuds!

*tuts* yes, I am back under house arrest, lol.... the rotteweiler/mother hen has decided that I have to rest up for a couple of days.... I tell you true, once my hair grows back there'll be no sign that I was ill, so all this pampering will stop... suppose I ought to make the most of it, lol!!

Thank you Kitty.... I shall pass them on... still can't have any re-heated food you know *breathes huge sigh of relief and smiles sweetly at Kitty*

LWH... just waved my disabled badge at the border guards and whoosh..... we were through.... never even had to pay the toll!! I thought we just had a discount, but we clearly looked like undesirables and were wafted straight through, lol

Jersey spuds - over-rated and over-priced. OH & I prefer Cornish new potatoes.

This year though we are growing our own!

I have loads of pototo plants growing in my tubs etc, I chuck the peelings in the compost heap and when I use it to top up my tubs, when it's all rotted down, somehow potatoes grow, have had several boilings in the past and looks as tho we are in for a few more soon

Of course, I could send o.h. over the hedge to the field at the end of the garden, they planted spuds there a few weeks ago, at least I think that's what is in there, a few years ago he told me they were Pringles spuds, obviously only a certain type mash down well enough to make those regular shapes lol

Morning all.... I know it is afternoon, but I have only been up an hour or so, lol

Liz, I have this very morning, found potatoes growing in the compost heap.... and, wait for it... the flipping wormery!! I haven't been doing the composting... R has, but I followed him this morning while he was doing it and saw them.... but they are still not ready to eat!!

Tina, I love Cornish potatoes, too..... and when we lived in Cyprus, they grew pots that were very similar to the Egyptian ones, and I loved them!!

A*** still doesn't have any potatoes, they should be arriving today...... it seems so odd that there are NO potatoes.... they have different suppliers, FGS!!

I've put a spagh bol on, it is in the slow cooker.... I'll have pasta and R will have garlic bread with his. *sigh*
