Anne, very best wishes to your daughter as she starts her chemo, and to you who will almost be going through it with her, except for the effects. I do hope she doesn't lose her hair but should it happen, I am sure she will look amazing, those bandanas are very attractive. It might be worth her asking about the cold caps tho as I have heard they work well with some people.
We had a young woman on here a while back with alopecia and I am still in touch with her through facebook, her hair hasn't grown back but she wears hats and scarves/bandanas and looks great.

Hello Anne, just had to pop on and wish your daughter well... and you of course, as it is sometimes harder for the people who love you to be able to do nothing but *be there*... but that is sooo important, believe me.

I have lost my hair twice now... it is about 1 1/2 centimeters long at the moment, sort of like a crew cut, lol... I was lucky, losing my hair was no big deal, what WAS awful was losing it on my pillow and breathing it in... it made me feel ill, so I ended up shaving it myself the first time, one of the nurses did it for me the second time.

I hate wigs, and hate bandana's... I can't tie one or keep the pre-tied ones straight to save my life... so apart from a woolly hat in winter when it was cold, I have gone bare-and bald headed.... had a few stares, but you soon learn to ignore them, and most people tell me how wonderful it looks!!

My chemo was very intensive, and was done as an inpatient each time...... it really was *kill or cure* stuff. But... it didn't feel as bad as I expected it to feel!! My fear of it was greater than the reality.

Just read your thread and I am sending Loads of positive thoughts for your daughter as she starts her Chemo.
Our daughter is in remission from Hodkins Lymphoma that she had six months chemo treatment for in 2005, her biggest dread was losing her hair and she was distressed two weeks after the first session when it started to come out , She lost it fairly quickly as she had a chemo session every two weeks and she was very concious of it BUT when it got too wispy she bit the bullet and got her OH to shave it all off and she looked so much better She did get a wig but didnt like it so was happy to to go without it ,She went through the summer on Chemo so bought a summer straw hat to go out in to protect her head more than to cover up .She got quite blasse about her head and said if people looked then that was their problem not hers.
I am convinced that all the positive thoughts that people sent did help her get through the treatment and I am sending loads to you and your family ,as your daughter starts hers

Thankyou all again for your messages. Daughter said it wasnt as bad as she thought it would be. she had the chance to chat to the lady next to her and I think that done daughter good to actually chat to someone who is going through the same sort of thing. Daughter didnt want any of us to go with her on her 1st session and she took her best friend who had to wait outside for her (daughters wishes)
Last night she had terrible stomach cramps but as a chrons sufferer that is normal for her so dont know if that was due to chemo or her chrons. Nausea and this morning she said she had a terrible taste in her mouth.
She does it all over again tomorrow.

Just looking in to see how your daughter is today! Nice to see that the chemo wasn't as bad as she thought it would be.

My daughter has had Crohn's for five and a half years, she starts on new medication a week today, so we are hoping that it will work.

Please give your daughter my best wishes!
