It's almost certain now that 228 people have died in what seems to be a mysterious plane crash. An Air France Airbus was flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, suddenly there was radio silence and nothing was heard from the pilot or the plane after that.

If it is confirmed that all 228 people were killed it would be the worst loss of life in Air France's history and civil aviation's worst accidental disaster for more than a decade

This is a tragedy ... not who Betty was... or whether you should have an odd drink whilst pregnant

How awful.

Most accidents seem to be on taking off and landing. To crash in the middle of a flight just shows it can happen at any time..

God Bless all of them and their friends and families

I dont think or one moment people are saying todays arguments on here are tragedies

Tragedies happen all the time, every day carol.

People die every day

But the rest of life moves on, along with the important bits, and the less important bits.

And that includes laughter, sadness, anger and arguments which although dont seem important to some, feel important to others who may or may not want to have their say without being made to feel guilty because xxx amount of people have died for whatever reason..

You do not seem to think I know that Mildred, but then I am just words on a screen to you.

When you have had true tragedy in your life little things tend to lessen in importance

Hi Caz ... to know that you will never see your loved ones again is bad enough without also knowing that you will never know what happened to them

What rude noise, Carol.

If you've ever met a child with fetal alcohol syndrome, you might revise your views on what's a tragedy and what isn't.

Not that anyone said anything else being discussed was a tragedy, as has been pointed out.

I simply never understand this need to make one's point / pat one's self on the back by bashing someone / something else ...

‘If you've ever met a child with fetal alcohol syndrome, you might revise your views on what's a tragedy and what isn't.’?

For the record I have worked with children & babies for 40yrs, have cared for children with all kinds of life threatening syndromes/ illnesses & seen families torn apart because of it.

Yes it is tragic, but arguments on a GR thread are not going to help these little ones or a pregnant woman who will now worry & (raise her blood pressure), till her baby is born, because she has had a glass of wine.

Before anyone else judges me & what I think of as tragic... please ask yourselves ... “Do I know what it is like to go to my Childs/Grandchild’s funeral?”

I am now going to my bed as work tomorrow.

Huh. Maybe a post on a discussion board will bring back a plane full of lost strangers ....

The slight difference is that information about FAS/FAE conveyed on message boards might actually reach someone who can benefit from it, and make a difference in a life.

Reporting the news about plane crashes ... hmm; not so much.

But maybe it will raise a few people's blood pressure when they're hanging around the departure lounge!

That's okay. They can just have a few drinks.

Yeesh.

JaneyCanuck Report 2 Jun 2009 01:27

Carol -- in all seriousness -- what on earth do your children and/or grandchildren, or anyone else's, have to do with a plane crash out of Brazil?

Does one have to drink a lot to make sense of the chatter on these boards, and is that why people get so distressed about any mention of how drinking is not a great idea in some circumstances?

JaneyCanuck

And you are violating the rules of this discussion board and of civil behaviour. I'll bet you're right proud.

Am I alone now?

Maybe I'll just have a little moan about how sick my sister is with the chemotherapy following the surgery that followed months of chemotherapy and radiation for her life-threatening cancer and how we still don't know whether she'll live ... how my mum is just about to start five weeks of daily radiation for her cancer ... how my No.1 would have died of diabetic ketoacidosis last week had we been mere minutes later getting to hospital ... how my dad died seven years ago after suffering for weeks with melanoma that had mestasized to his bones and organs ...

How an old beau of mine had an adopted daughter who suffered from fetal alcohol effects ...

No, I'm sure I don't have a clue what tragedy is. I should be quiet.

Carol - I have read your thread and I'm amazed that you can make the comments that you have. You don't know me or anything about me so you have no idea what tragedies I have had in my life - and I'm not going into that. In the work I do I see tragedy all around me. I too read the news about the plane crash and saw the stunned looks on the people's faces as they waited at the airport for news of their loved ones. I have also read the story about the couple who couldn't bear to live without their child and jumped off the cliff in Sussex. That's is true tragedy. But I come on here most days - I laugh, I join in serious conversations and I argue with people just like real life. Don't assume that just because I do this that I don't know what the truly important things in life are and don't assume I don't know what tragedy is because I do.

Sue
