there must be some truth in the saying...........
absolute power corrupts,
and absolute power corrupts.......absolutely......

there is much talk about " OTHER" governments..............

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

"Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it; and this I know, my lords, that where laws end, tyranny begins."

How long had this been going on without us knowing?? If the "errors" or "embezzlement" had not been found, I bet they would still be at it. Sack the lot without any money/pension

Do you think that Tony,

in his/her wisdom decided that the time was right, to drop Dear Gordie in it?
and pave the way for his own future....

Bob

mamiddau

mamiddau Report 3 Jun 2009 12:05

it certainly looks that way Bob! Think he must have had an inkling as to what was coming, but as the then chancellor - wouldn't Gordon have known too??!! I think Tony jumped ship at just the right time - for his own means - left the mess for someone else to sort out! IMO

Sue

Sue Report 3 Jun 2009 12:27

Everyone knows dear Tony handed Gordon the 'black spot' but Gordon was so desperate to become PM he didn't care.

A case of severe delusion.

The question is, if we get rid of all these so called corrupt sleazy politicians, where are we going to find the whiter than white perfect people that never make mistakes, that we demand.

mamiddau

mamiddau Report 3 Jun 2009 13:22

i for one don't expect my politicians to be perfect - they are human after all - but i would prefer them not to take the p&*% with taxpayers money, and act for their consituents, rather than their own needs.

Merlin

Merlin Report 3 Jun 2009 13:52

The only way ( in my opinion ) to sort this mess out is that every Polititian who has been on the Fiddle ( No matter what party or how much ) should be sacked with immediate effect.( Not waiting till the next election to stand down ) and prosecuted for theft or misappropriation of TaxPayers money. There are bound to be some of them who have not cheated and could run the Country till the next election. If this amount of theft had happened in Private Business their collective feet would,nt have touched the ground on their way out the door, with the Police Arresting them as they left.**M**.

Merlin Report 3 Jun 2009 14:18

Just a few other thoughts. every future MP.has to accept to be trreated the same way as other people who have to commute to do their Jobs. They cannot employ any members of their Family ( we have loads of civil servants sitting on their collective bums doing nowt ) all expenses will only be paid on prodution of valid reciepts. No second homes or allowances,Hotel B&B only, other food and meals etc they pay for out of their wages same as other people do.After all, these people are "Our Employees".end of rant.**M**

If one were to be cynical - one would wonder if the exodus was due to the fact that they will no longer be able to make the excessive claims !
