Just thought I would share my happiness with you all...

My Hubby and daughter are off to Normandy this morning for the D Day Celebrations parade.

They are both (and myself) in the Army Cadet Force and the cadets are going to be on parade tomorrow. 10 counties from England have been selected to attend each sending approx 36 cadets.

As this is going to be the last time the veterans will be attending they are handing it over the the Army Cadet Force to carry on the parades as of next year.

I am so proud of them doing it. The cadets
from our county had to raise money to help finance it and they raised around £9,000 doing different things. My daughter did a bag pack and a sponsored walk along Hadrians wall.

I willk be watching the TV tomorrow hoping to catch a glimps of them

UPDATE
Just finished watching the BBC news and Sarah and our other cadets from the county were on guard in front of the band that was playing throughout the service.

Sure the Veterans are proud of them too.

A very special time.

I went on a D-Day Landing Commemorative Tour in 1984; it was unforgettable.

As others have said - you must be so proud!
Are they going to wear badges with pictures of the queen on?
I hear a lot of veterans are!!

Dear Mama Rambo

Hope your husband and daughter have a safe journey.

I am glad you are happy at them both attending the commerations.

I went to the VE day 50th anniversarry commerations, held  in Hyde Park, London, 1995.

I saw the Queen mother make her speech, the opening of the white dove for peace, tea dancing and jitterbug dance and various parades.

The commerations were very well organised and everyone was well look after.

Very best wishes to you and your family.
xx

I went to the commemorations in 1977 as a 10 year old. My grandad was a Royal Marine commando and was one of many that landed on the beaches on D-Day.

The memorial services would start about 6.30am, and there would be two or three every day to attend usually ending up with a procession, banquet or dance. The occasions were solemn, but fun. My grandad would meet up with so many long-lost friends.

Your husband and daughter will thoroughly enjoy it. I learnt so much whilst there than I would have ever learnt at school. I can spend the whole time watching the film D-Day, 6th of June saying been there, went there and what it looks like now.

Thank you for all your well wishes for my two travellers.

Sarah texted me last night and said she was having a ball of a time, somehow they got the cabins mixed up and she ended up in a cabin with 3 male cadets lol... once the adults realised she was soon moved in with 3 girls, she was quite miffed as she said it would have been a laugh cause she gets on with all 3 of the lads. Trust her I can just imagine her saying "Ohh I don't mind".

Got a text of hubby this morning saying he was very proud of her.

Will let everyone know how they get on when I get more info

Update

Sarah texted at 1.20 saying that she may be on the news as the news crews filmed her and her friend.

Unfortunatly I was in town at that time so the news is on now just in case. Will be some coverage shortly I expect as at 1600 hrs the Veterans will be presented with their badges and at 1800hrs is the final parade.

Well what can I say other than Well done to all the Cadets from the Country.

Sarah and our cadets from the county were on guard in front of the band that was playing at the service. I sat a bubbled everytime they panned onto them. I was just so proud of her. Although I am still waiting to see hubby lol he hates his photo taken so I know fine well he will be hiding from the media cameras lol
