Multiple trees or fuzzy links

Hi Keith I don't think GR has this capability in its trees. You can contact them (via the Contact Us icon at the bottom the page) regarding this.

The single boxed persons that Berona mentioned. Are probably from when people have done corrections to their tree & deleted people. These didn't always delete & ended up as stand alone entries in their tree. After an error, early in my tree, I had to delete ~30 entries. But unknown to me, these all ended up as stand alone entries & wondered why I'd get occasional contacts regarding them.
I had to go back in to find them & re-delete them all. I've just tried to recreate this error to no avail. So I assume GR have rectified this.

One alternative Keith. You could open a separate free account on GR & create a new tree for this family of people. That way you'll get hot matches for them. But when you find your link,. You'll need to manually import them one at a time onto your main tree.

Regards,
Steve.

I don't know how to do it, Keith, but I have sometimes been given access to someone's tree because of a mutual relative, only to find that the particular person is in a box by himself (or sometimes with his wife) and no lines connecting them to anyone else in the tree. So it must be possible.

I suggest you contact GR and ask them how to do it.

Hi Medi~eval~angel, Thanks for coming back to me. As an ex software developer it's not rocket science all you need is another relationship which doesn't force any specific relationship you just need a different representation of the link such as a wavy line. At least then you can add these relations to your tree and sort out the exact link at a latter date.Fuzzy logic is a valid way of representing data. I have two families that I know are related to my family but I just don't know exactly how. If I could add them to my tree other people might find a link.to their tree and hopefully mine. I have a hand written family history written some time between 1855 and 1879 that lists these relations I also have a freedom of the city of Liverpool certificate for the main character I'm trying to track down. There is also loads of aural history from the family. In short it's driving me mad. The main reason I started tracing my family history was to resolve three issues - How was Hugh Shimmin related to my great grandmother.; who had his neck broken Cumberland wrestling and who was lost on Morcombe sands in a pony and trap.

I need to get some sort of answers to these questions or I'll go mad.

Cheers Keith

Hi All,

My apologies if this has been raised and answered before - I did try searching but got so many useless links I gave up. My problem is I have a relation who I believe was a uncle of my paternal great grandmother but I don't know exactly how despite all my efforts. Is there any way I can set up a fuzzy link to someone i.e. I know they are related but not sure how. Failing that can I set up a free standing entry for these relations without a link or set up a separate tree. If I don't get them on my tree somehow I'm not likely to find the link.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Cheers Keith
