Like Rose I had a clear out of really bad photos I had taken of views, flowers etc that were not very good (film photos), many of my family photos pre digital I have scanned into the PC and copied onto discs. I have several albums of my Dad's photos he had a camera around 1930 and there are loads of small black and white. mostly not labelled but some I do know a few I don't including one of an elderly lady in an old fashioned invalid carriage with the large wheel in front. three wheel, the same as Sally's - maybe they were related Sally as I do not have a clue who she is!!! I keep meaning to send her photo to one of the magazines to see if anyone recognizes the poor old soul.

There really should be a site dedicated to unknown people and photographs where their faces live on forever.

I have hundreds of photos in an old biscuit tin.Half are of people who I have no idea who they are. There is no-one left to ask now ,so I really should bin them. But there is something about throwing photos away.I feel as though I am throwing people out,and to think they are going to end up at the tip or on the bonfire really gets to me.BUT I have to be tough and do it.(I don't know when though) lol

Mel just make sure, if you're the family photographer, that you are in some of the photos so that when you are long gone those great grandchildren can remember you. My OH takes all our photos and I have to insist that he is in some - especially the family groups. He now has a remote control for his camera:))

I am glad Mum and Dad kept photos of their families.......I have a nice photo of my Gt. Grandparents with my Grandad aged 4 and his baby sister.......they look so proud of their little family.....

.....and yes, I have photos of people I don't know.......one is of an old Scottish man in a wheelchair........very old type with a wheel right out in front like a modern 3 wheeler pushchair, and a tartan rug over his legs.......no idea of where he would fit in the family, he looks quite well off.....

....and a dog with a sailor's cap on, but just saying HMS......no ship name......

When my dad died, my brother, sister and I found a huge pile of wedding photos that we had never seen before.

We recognised the groom as my paternal granddad and assumed the bride to be my grandmother. The rest of the guests meant absolutely nothing to us. Funnily enough though, the chief bridesmaid had my sisters hair and brothers face.

My father was an only child and he had no contact with any living members of his family. I tracked down an auntie and we started up regular contact. I took the photos up to Yorkshire and she was able to identify virtually everyone in them.

I never get rid of any photos unless they're so blurry you can't see the faces. I label every photo because I don't want future generations to curse me. I have loads of old photos and I'm very lucky that my OH is quite good at restoring them.

lol at Foggy,

SRS I did have a sort out before I moved last time and got rid of some that were blurred, mostly of flowers or an odd butterfly that I tried to snap in a hurry . Quite a few old photos , maybe one or two of mum's boyfriends, not sure but also some which are family but not sure who....yet! But did get a nice surprise when an 'expert' identified the regiment from a photo in unknown rellie in uniform and found that enlarging the photo showed a collar badge, which I also have :)

xx

That's where it should be Keith ;) Worried that it took so long.

You shred your photographs Foggy eeek! Even the old family ones?

I've even got photos on the computer where I should press DELETE lol

I've also got unknown photos, I inherited some from my grandparents. Keep them in hope someone can tell me about them some day.
