INDIA 1901

I was always told that my Great Grandmother grew up in India as apparently her Father was a British Soldier- I have no proof of this.
She was born in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire but doesn't seem to be listed on the 1901 census could this mean she was in India at the time? And how then do I go about proving this?
Thanks

Is she on the 1911 census? What was her fathers name?

Yes I think she is on the 1911 census but I can't find her on the 1901 nor her brothers who would have been alive in 1901.
Her name is Annie Barltrop her father is Alfred.

You could look for her fathers service records which will give you an idea of where he was and when. If he went on to serve in WW1 they will be on the Ancestry website, although bear in mind that lots were destroyed so they may not have survived. If he didn't serve in WW1 then his records (if they have survived) will be at the National Archives.

Hi Christina,
I tried to look her up but realized that I don't have enough info to find her, although there are a couple of ANNIE BARLROP's on the Census in ANCESTRY.

If you are with 'findmypast' you will be able to find her if she was born abroad and her father a service man of any sort.
I found myself there.
Good luck.
