Hi David. Yes they used to be Burton's Wagon Wheels. Don't know who does them now.
Moonchild: I remember walnut whips with a half.-nut on the top and the other half in the inside. Think they forget the bottom one now though!
Am I the only one who used to nip the nut off the top, munch the chocolate from the outside leaving the mallow and thick chocolate bsse?

Not really sure on this one Fiona, but didn't spangles bring out black and white stripey ones..... .... humbug flavour, and mint ones too......then they changed the name later.....

As for Waggon Wheels, I think they did original, and toffee flavour, I haven't had one for a long time....

.......and maybe a dodgy memory here too.......but I seem to remember half a walnut on the top of a walnut whip, and one inside the mallow, at the bottom.......

I think that 'spangles' were always called 'spangles' weren't they? When I was young each sweet was in a stripy wrapper.

If memory serves it was Burton's Wagon Wheels

I too used to like Wagon Wheels from the school tuckshop. Bought some recently on a "nostalgia trip" but - not at all as I remembered! Have they changed the recipe?
Any one remember Tiffin Bars (milk chocolate, raisins and biscuity-bits)?

have a look here lol a chat room about the Fry's chocolate bars!!!
http://www.chocablog.com/reviews/frys-chocolate-cream/

I used to LOVE the 5 fruits one - especially if you snapped it into 5 and the fruits overlapped the 'join' - for some reason that made it extra special!

I read that they still do these in Oz Ingrid and what they are called.......pity that they have stopped production here......

All this talk of sweets......I am getting the fancy for a coffee and walnut cake and I don't know if I have the willpower not to pop round to the supermarket to get the ingredients.....

Ingrid

My aunt lives in Australia and she gets frys mint cream bars posted out to her.
My cousins daughter had the 5 flavoured ones wrapped up nicely on the side plate as favours at her wedding. They went down a treat and looked lovely. Wasnt there, but did see photos.

We called the 5 flavour/shape one a SNACK Bar, in Australia.

Wagon Wheels here are now half the size I'm sure.

I liked toffee mints. They were like long..mint imperials but had hard toffee in the middle.

That website was useful Marion......I had forgotten most of those chocolates........now does anyone remember Harlequin.......soft centred chocolates......think they were made by Rowntrees.......and in a box shaped like the Roses box........I am sure that was their name......my Sis always preferred soft centred chocolates so they were good for her.....

Thanks ladies......yes Anne and Marion, it was Cadburys Milk Tray Bar.......such a simple name, and yet I couldn't remember it.......I do seem to remember that they had the shapes of what they were stamped out on the bar, but this was later changed and another one added, and they were put into rows with a line down the middle......6 pieces, different flavours ....

.....and yes, it was Kunzle, now owned by Lyons.......googled showboats.....why I didn't do that before I don't know.......they were such nice cakes, shame they went out of production.....

and Allen......those Waggon Wheels were lovely, but I am sure they were sooooo much bigger.....

That's right Anne......my favourite was the one that was boat shaped and had lemon cream on the top and a triangle jelly sweet......they were quite expensive as I remember, but on a special occasion I would buy some and they looked special on a plate....

I googled the bars......and came up with Cadburys Milk Tray Bar for the 5 selections.......and Frys Fruit Bars for the Frys one.......don't know if it is the right one for Frys though.......

I think it just got too expensive to make them.......shame, it saved buying a box of chocolates.....
