I'm so sorry to hear that your Aunt passed away before her daughter arrived.How awful for her.As for telling your Mum I would not say anything.I was in the same situation with my Mum a few years ago and the staff at the Home thought it best to say nothing and I am sure that was the right desicion.

Thank you everyone for your messages not sure about telling mum as she is 90yrs old and has dementia she wouldn't remember even if we did

I'm so sorry for you and for your cousin for missing seeing her mother. I guess that maybe your aunt couldn't wait any longer. God had called her and it was time to go.

So sorry to hear about your aunt and I wanted to reassure your cousin that she shouldn't concern herself about arriving late. Journeys are unpredictable.

I was called to my dying father three years ago: he was on holiday near Worthing and was taken ill. I drove from Kent, sat on the A27??? for ages worrying about him and arrived at the hospital hot and flustered. He died 10 minutes later.

Although he hadn't been told I was coming I firmly believe he was hanging on for me.

How sad for everyone, I feel for your cousin who must be very upset she couldn't make it in time. My condolences to you all.

Val, I am sorry to hear about your aunt, please accept my sympathy for the family, especially for your cousin who must be devastated not to have got there on time. However she tried, that is the main thing, she has nothing to reproach herself for.

If it's any consolation to you, we sat with my dad until he died of a heart attack, and had the awful feeling that he didn't want us there. He wasn't one for a fuss and I had feeling that he just wanted to be left alone. Maybe he didn't want to put us through it either?

My Aunt passed away 40 mins ago and my cousin was flying in from America missed her mum by 10mins

I always find it sad to hear of relatives having to rush to their loved ones side and would be devastated if I had to do the same and didn't arrive in time so can feel for your cousin and all the family. I am sure if your Aunt is well enough to understand, she will know you are thinking about her even tho you haven't been able to visit her. Is it possible you can phone the hospital and tell her you are thinking about her, or is she too ill to take a call?
I hope if it really is her time to go, she has a peaceful painfree passing after her daughter has been able to spend time with her.
