Nina here, I'm from oop north, currently living in Sheffield, brought up in Derbyshire, born in Lancashire. We moved to Sheffield five years ago from a quiet Derbys village,as we are getting on a bit, and wanted the convenience of shops, buses ect.

I really hate it, it's dirty, strewn with litter, there are crowds of hoodies on every corner, and the traffic noise is horrendious.

We put our house on the market nine months ago for a bargain price and intend to move to the east coast.

But, guess what?? Nobody else wants to live here , so barring a lottery win, were stuck

Just so's I don't say something I shouldn't Annina....Where are you from, UK or elsewhere?......If it is UK...I will let you get away with that remark....but if you are from 'elsewhere'....then......Some of us are very patriotic don't you know, and may take offence at that remark.

I would love to just visit anywhere in the UK. Preference would be Yorkshire, where OH family are from, Norton, Malton, Yeadon and Tong and Leeds would be good, anywhere in Scotland and Ireland.

Wish I was rich. But would have to go in summer as hate the cold weather.

I love the Glamorgan Heritage coast, partly because it's beautiful and also because of happy childhood memories.

I'd like to visit the Northumberland coast and really must pay a visit to the Lake District sometime.

So much more to see yet........

Hello Susan

I guess you're "Susan with numbers"?

10 out of 10 for good taste!

Hi Gwynne

I can answer that one with first hand knowledge - looking out of my window, I can see it.

It's rugged, sometimes inaccessible (a long walk from a car park -but to my mind all the better for that), nothing like the hospitability of the Bamburgh coastline, but beautiful in a wild sort of way.

It's well within walking distance for those who are prepared to walk!

I hope I've caught your imagination. If you ever fancy a look up here, please do PM me - I'd be happy to share a bit of local knowledge with you

Funny you should say that, Sue, it did remind me very much of west Wales.

What's the coast like in Durham? I have to be within walking distance of the sea.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Gwynne. North Northumberland is a lot like Wales in many ways, don't you think? The Celtic influence in the "prettier" places, plus the more recent mining legacy.

Another shameless plug - next time you're up this way, try a few days in County Durham. You'll be amazed - promise!

I love Wales but have just come back from Northumberland and I loved it. We stayed very near Bamburgh in Beadnell, Sue, and it's a spectacular coastline.

I've always wanted to go to Lindisfarne and finally made it and it didn't disappoint me.

Portmeirion is lovely, Lesley.

Evening all

Favourite place in the UK has to be Bamburgh. If you don't know it, it's up on the north Northumberland coast. It must have some of the most beautiful beaches you've ever seen. Well worth a visit

Place I'd most like to visit in the UK - at the moment, that's Bath. I'd love to see some of the places Jane Austen wrote about.

But - do you mind if I give a plug for my county, County Durham? A beautiful place. There's more to Durham than just the Cathedral and the old City (lovely though they both are) - the Durham Dales are one of the very few under-discovered treasures of this country (remember Hannah Hauxwell, anyone?), plus we've got Beamish Open Air Museum (http://www.beamish.org.uk/About-the-museum/AboutBeamish.aspx) and so much more!

Sorry about the shameless plug!

Come and see us sometime - you won't regret it.

Oh Annina

My son works in Sheffield city centre, lives in Elsecar.

You have some lovely countryside on your doorstep.

I have some special memories of a number of places... Oban on the west coast of Scotland, Totnes & Dartmouth in Devon. Skye and the Road to the Isles, Norfolk Broards to name but a few.

Love where I live now in Conwy.

We are so blessed with some beautiful places on this island of ours. If it wasn't for our inconsistent weather there would be no need to go abroad.
