I am somewhat rather delicate this morning, my legs have turned to jelly, and my hair aches, apart from that I'm fine thankyou.

Perse, I also married a Davies, we could be related, though there are one or two Davies's in Wales, I've also got lots of William's in my tree, but again, half of Wales is named Williams.

I shall stand up and patriotically sing the Welsh National Anthem on Saturday, and yes, I do know the words.

Ah i don't seem to have explained my self well.

In any case, I can't take them seriously since Barry Humphries adopted them.

I was just looking at the updated WW1 records on ancestry, but most of my side were coal miners,so they would have been in reserved occupations. We have a picture of OH's grandfather in uniform and though the surname which is near the end of the alphabet has now been added, he is still not there, Oh well.

I have finished reading the biography of our deputy prime minister Julia Gillard, who is of Welsh origins but was born in Bury. Turns out she is a boat person. Came out on a ship called the Fairsky as a four year old about 1965. Her parents were originally from Cwmgrwach in south Wales. She is a woman I admire greatly. Not just for her politics as there are women on both sides of politics that I admire.

Persey, I sort of agree about the accent.
My first visit to your country was 1974. I never picked a strong accent, in fact in talking to an old bloke in Auckland I thought he was an Aussie and he thought I was a Kiwi.
My second visit was in 1991 I think, anyhow I left on the day Farmer Jim was elected prime minister. I had noted during the campaign a strong accent, i.e.hat sounded more like het and head more like hid. And things shorter than mountains were hlls (not a typo). That is also a characteristic of South African English. There were only two groups of people that sounded like that-- politicians and Maoris. Not newsreaders or ordinary people I met.
In 2001 it was more common still, but I went only to the southern part of the south island that time.
The Australian accent became very broad during the time of PM Bob Hawke (1983-1990). There are 3 accepts, often called broad, educated and affected. Hawke was very broad. Our former foreign minister spoke affected Australian, but he was educated in Adelaide and Britain which is some excuse. I like to think I sound on the slightly broad side of educated, but as my voice is rather nasal with a slight lisp (problem with front teeth maybe I am kidding myself.

Tec, I thought half of Wales was named Evans. As in Evans the meat, Evans the bread,Evans the law etc. My favourite is Evans the Scot. Friends of mine named Evans have a lad called Hamish.
So half Davies, half Williams and half Evans. I should talk. My surname is Irish but doesn't beging with Mc or O'. Then again, ity bekins with K so could be a relic of Mac G----

Persey is about a thousand miles across the ditch from me. Berona, Sue, Carole and I think Alison are closer. Allan (if I was interested in maids, hairy legged or otherwise) is much further away. Fortunately.

The Welsh population is basically made up of names like,
Davies, Williams, Evans, Roberts, Edwards, Philips, Jones, and others that escape me, as I'm in a feeble frame of mind today.

I'm not going out tonight. It's cold, dark and horrible out there!

It is not a bad night here, pity there is no display. Each year the Round Table organise a large display and bonfire, which is held on a field just near here,so we get a free view.They make a modest charge, we have been a few times and it is really good value for the price.

It seems there is no longer a branch of the Round Table, so there is no display this year. I was working in the tourist office this afternoon and we had loads of people coming in and phone calls asking where the display was. You would think that it was my fault

Well it's Guy Fawkes night here, but it looks like being a bit of a damp squib. I had hoped to push the Duchess around the village in a wheelbarrow, doing my "Penny For The Guy" thing. However, she has refused to participate, just because it's pouring with rain, and very windy.
I even offered to lend her my raincoat. Very un-sporting I think.
She could have had a hot water bottle on her lap, and I would have filled my hip flask with her favourite tipple, so that she could have a little snifter when she got too cold and wet.
I could have talked her into anything once upon a time, but it seems her spirit of adventure has worn a bit thin. Oh well!,

Hello Diane, I did manage to hold out to lunch time, in fact I ended up being a bit late, then had to rush because I nearly forgot that the tourist office has switched to winter opening hours, so we start earlier, but close earlier as well
