Just looked at my account details and have a rather red face :(

I had missed a dot out. Sorry all!

Best wishes

Janet

Yes, done all that.

I am waiting to hear what they say. They should be able to find my account, anyway, with all the info I've given them. I've been a member for nearly 6 years!

Thanks all for help and advice

Have you gone into the 'My Account' tab at the top of the GR page and actually altered your email address in your registered details on here ???

Wildgoose Report 3 Aug 2009 14:00

I've had two messages via my email from Gene's today. I can talk to you all (proof, here I am), I have a tree on Genes which is open to several relatives and yet.....Genes staff cannot find me. I don't seem to exist on this site!

The only way I can get in is through an old message I found in my inbox. If I enter through the homepage my email addresses (tried both) and my password don't work. I have checked my account and it's all there.

Thanks :)

Or check your Junk Mail folder - it is more likely to be your new em provider that is blocking messages, rather than a firewall.

Thanks Budgie - I've done that and everything looks fine on here. I think I may have to sort out the 'address book'. If I can find it!

That's possible. I'll ask my son; he is an IT man and usually sorts out our PC problems.

Thanks for the thought..

AnninGlos Report 22 Jul 2009 15:01

Marion, this is what you are thinking of, it is at the top of e mail notifications

To ensure Genes Reunited emails get to your Inbox, please add [email protected] to your Address Book or Safe List.

Could it be your firewall is blocking their e mails Janetell

I used to get 'Hot Matches' alerts by email as well as notification of someone wanting to make contact or answering my messages but it is only since I changed email address this stopped. I didn't notice for a few weeks but when I did I checked my profile and my new email was on it so I don't know what the problem is. I know you can opt out of 'Hot Match' alerts and I did think of doing this as they are more luke warm than Hot as a rule!

I will wait and see what happens now I have asked GR for advice again.

Thanks to all for your help and advice.

they alert you about hotmatches etc, when someone sends you a personal message. Is it something to do with settings perhaps in "my account". can you opt out of communications? I cannot remember.

Thanks Shirley, but I cannot access my old email address. I'm not saying it isn't possible but I don't know how to do it. :-)

My new email seems to be in the system as it is the correct one in my profile when I sent a message to GR just now.

Perhaps they'll reply now; I sent it for the attn. of Estelle as Ann suggested.

It sounds like your new email address isnt in the system somehow so that when somone clicks on your name it goes to the old email address,. can you access the old email to see if there is lots there unanswered

Wildgoose Report 22 Jul 2009 10:09

Hello DET

I meant that I am no longer notified if someone answers me after a Tree Search or wants to contact me about my tree. I used to get an email along the lines of 'David has replied to you'.

I will try Ann's suggestion and contact them again.

It is only a problem if I don't know someone is trying to make contact and they think I'm not interested :(

Thanks

When I first joined GR, some years back, their customer service was very good. Now it seems to be non existent!
