I got most of my breakthroughs from Hot Matches. One in particular, is about my gr/grandmother. I gathered info that she was one of thirteen children born to X & Y "Smith" in New South Wales. The only marriage for an X & Y Smith that I could find was dated about fifteen years later and took place in Melbourne, so I dismissed it as being the wrong info.

Through Hot Matches, I met a lady who could tell me that after having six children, X & Y had a holiday in Melbourne and decided to tie the knot quietly while they were there. Nobody knew that they had not been married.
At last! I was able to fill in the space!

Dear All

Hello

I would say definitely helped.

There is a lot of advice about searching for ancestors and also,
most of the GR members are extremely helpful.

I have found more info and contacts then I thought I would through the search trees facility.

Best wishes to all
xx

Me too, Joy. I've also had photos of family members I would never have received otherwise and lately information about an ancestor and his very illustrious naval career that I can even read about in books and articles on the internet. This has all come about with the Hot Matches.

With regard to my ancestral family research, I have been helped by others' lateral thinking.

Yes! I have had 3 very good hot matches.2nd and 3rd cousins from Mam's side.

Also an excitng contact from the Grandaughter of my Granma's brother.
I was sent photographs of my GGranma,(born 1855) which I'd never seen before and was given lots of new family names & info.

After being a member for 6 years I always live in hope that one day I'll get a contact or info. (no matter how small) from someone on my paternal side of the family.

Yes, Susan.... but it did give you to those of us who got stuck!! Lol

Lesley, I have put my tree on hold for a while, and am just beginning to get the urge again..... I have had at least 5 really good Hot Matches..... have met some second cousins... got photos of gt gt gt Grandfather, gt gt grandmother and gt gt grandfather.... and the best of all.... gt gt gt gt grandmother...... all from GR Hot Matches.

The Tips board was brilliant when I was a Newby... and the level of help... to do with research or with IT help.... has been superb.

But.... best of all, I have made some very special friends.... and had so much support and laughter at a time when I needed it so much....

And today (about an hour ago) I think I have knocked out a brick in my Jones' wall, lol!! Via a Hot match. *sighs with happiness*

Love

Daff xxxx

The hot matches I've had on here has led to family I didn't know about and friends I would probably never have met otherwise. We met my cousin for the first time last year and that's down to GR and we've met a family connection from this site also. We wouldn't have known without this site. The site has also opened contact with people who've helped me on the way with family research when I was a newby and had no idea where to go and have helped knock down brick walls.

Yes this site has been good for my English connections and Scotlandspeople has good records for my Scottish side.......I only have my Scottish side on here at present in the hope of more contacts.......I did have OH's tree on here too, but he has a King in his tree, and I got bogged down with pages of Kings, and nothing for my side at all......

Had lots of info before joining here but GR has certainly helped with my missing links. The response i received from very willing people was so instant - I for one give a thumbs up to all the helpers that give of their time so freely. Big thanks.

Absolutely :)

Not because of the search facility or tree maker as such, but because in asking questions, which kind people helped me with, I found out where and how to look and it put my family names up on the boards which other rellies have then seen and made contact.

Oh and some nice people here too ;)

Sadly I can't do a tree,as I don't know who my father was ,don't know who my B Mothers father was and so it goes on lol. It's a shame as I would have loved to have got my teeth into something like that. But I am glad others are able to trace back their families.
