I've left my entire fortune to my cat.
My nephews and nieces must look after the cat for
the whole of it's long and happy life.
Once the cat dies, they inherit all the money.

LOL Jac - fortunately perhaps they are not 'kids', but all grown up and leading their own lives. All have good jobs, good relationships and probably more disposable income than we do! I shouldn't complain, they are all lovely and I am fond of them, but various events recently have soured my feelings somewhat!

Helen, I thought that once somebody was divorced any original will would be cancelled. Then, as Rita says there are laws of intestacy which i am sure do not include ex husbands and do include children.

I think I will create a trust fund for indigent publicans and maybe one for retired butchers in reduced circumstances. I have much to be grateful for from these occupations.

Ive told my boys they can have my house ( WILL drawn up) ......but not my MONEY as I intend to SPEND ALL of it !!

*holds hand up and waves it around* I'd be a very good deserving cause, Eldrick.... really I would... and I'd promise that I would spend all my inheritance wisely, on good wines, and labrador puppies, and stuff..... I would give them all pink fluffy collars, and hug them daily... and the very best of diets....

Made my first Will years ago after seeing the trouble and trauma caused in my Dad's family because several old aunts and uncles died without making Wills.......oooooh the fights, arguing and rifts that were caused - and lasted years and years!!

Basically, by making a Will you get the peace of mind that none of your worldly goods will end up going to nasty old auntie Flo who you haven't spoken to for 50 years!!
I don't know why people are of the attitude that they'll make a Will 'when they get older'.....unfortunately death doesn't always wait for the old 'uns, it can strike at any given time in anyone's life.

With reference to the earlier thread ref: ex-hubby getting the lot - perhaps they were separated but not yet divorced...in which case the spouse is still next of kin and would inherit all.

I made a will years ago but it became null and void when I got remarried so I then made a new one. Don't forget that if you have a property abroad you need a second will made in that country.

If I hadn't made a will watching Heir Hunters would have sent me running to the solicitors.

Going on from Wendy's reference to Heir Hunters, they reckon about two thirds of people in UK have not made a Will. I find that quite amazing.

What's even more amazing is that the UK Govt. reeled in £18 million last year - handed to them on a plate, more or less - purely through unclaimed estates, ie because people hadn't made a Will.
That's disgusting!!!! Even if I had no blood rellies, I'd rather leave my debt and 3 plastic gnomes to the local Cats Home than have the Govt rake it in.
