death certificate 1840 cause of death Visitation b

I have received this morning a death certificate dated 1840 saying ,Cause death Died by the Visitation of God Apoplexy |

half the time they didnt know the cause of death esp 1n 1841 and a visitation by God might help the relatives to mourn the losss of the departed person |

It wasn't until 1875 that the law was changed to require a doctor to normally certify the death. After this time you tend to see medical terminology, eg myocardial infarction, as opposed the Heart Attack. |
