that unless you change your privacy settings, all contacts (that you've shared your tree with) can view what threads you've posted on and how you've altered your tree?

Look on home page and my updates.

Click on privacy settings to change your settings.

Do you know that if you google "Genes Reunited" "Boardname", you can read some of the posts made in that boardname? ANYONE can read them - you don't have to be a GR member as long as you know the boardname.

Thanks for the warning SRS, I have no idea what this is about so am off to take a look.

I do wonder WHY GR keep fiddling with stuff and making it worse....you would think/hope they'd give us the option. It wasn't SO long ago they let everyone in your contacts have access to your tree, and took so long to fix it that I deleted most of my tree off here, realising GR cannot be trusted.

EDITED:
Didn't even know what My Updates was until I looked just now to change my privacy settings. Thanks SRS, Ive done mine now. Pity there hadn't been a box to tick under the heading "I couldn't give a flying fig who's done what to their tree".

Thanks Lesley for bringing this to our attention :) .....

This is a difficult choice to make ...... to stop your contacts reading whatever you post on the boards, also blocks any updates you make to your tree ? ...or have I got that wrong ?

I for one want my contacts to see any updates I make to my tree, and for me to see any they might make .... hmmmm

Thanks SRS,

I noticed yesterday the new Updates section on the home page. But not the privacy settings.

As you said, I to wish they'd givens us an opt in rather than an opt out for this.

Well, unless I'm the special one lol, it's not just people who I have shared my tree with (or they with me) but it's everyone I've ever had contact with that I now have pages and pages of updates for! :-((

Some are people who I have only ever replied to on their thread.....what's that all about?! I don't want to know what updates they have made to their tree - and I'm sure they don't want me to know either!!

I've changed it now of course. :-))

Dont know why they dont tell us about changes.
I wish they would change the hot matches. I went through some of mine today...waste of time.

I've given up with Hot Matches. Sometimes I even get matched with myself, but find I'm living in Australia!!

Thanks for the tip, Lesley. I've altered my settings.
I had a look and the very first update was someone who had uploaded photos of relatives, no idea who it is yet could see her tree!
Hope you don't mind but I'll advise our Scotfamtree members about this as a lot also use GR.
