Looks like my bag has gone for good.

I am ok about going to kew now.

I spoke to a friend who went there on Monday and found some other people had done same as me, but he went and reported it and with luck they got there things back ok.

It was 4 people who had lefted they key in the locker door when locked it. but for got to take key with them.

I did go to the meeting today and said about it, said not alot they can do about it.

I know how upsetting this will be for you.I have had theft happen twice. The most upsetting one was when I was at the airport waiting to get the plane for our holiday.I went to the loo and left my handbag on my seat at the cafe.OH thought I had taken it with me and left the table.I went back to the cafe and the people on the next table said they found my bag and handed it in to the staff.
I went to the kitchen door and saw several people looking in the bag. They gave it back minus my purse ,that had all my holiday money in.
But the most upsetting thing of all was ,I had a note that my Mum had sent me when she was suffering from Dementia saying She was sorry she was such a horrible person and that she was a nuisance and that I should forget all about her!!!!.I had kept that note for several years and it had gone.
I hope you get over this. There are some real ******* out there.
I was able to claim the cash lost on my insurance as I could prove I took that amount out of the bank.
I'm so sorry this has happened to you

Another thought about your glasses- some opticians give a second pair discount.
Worth contacting them if you have no joy.
I do hope they catch them though.

I havent heard anymore from Kew yet or the police but they said will be intouch within 72 hrs.

Thats what i am hoping that they have put the bag somewhere and someone may find it and hand it into the police. Bank cards have been closed down. Just want glasses and photos etc back.

Thank you all again for your surpport.

I also put it on here just to let others know it can happen anywhere. So be ware and remeber your key.

Will keep you up dated.

Many thanks

What a horrible thing to happen...some people

Lets hope they dump the bag and some kind soul finds it and hands it in. My friend had her bag snatched from a supermarket whilst loading the car with her shopping but they dumped it in a bin and the home owner looked in it and saw her things and rang a number in her address book. It was her mums number and they got the bag and pictures back etc but the purse and money had gone.! How would they like it done to a member of their family!

Good luck and hope you get your stuff back

So sorry to hear this Hazel, so easy to get distracted though and forget the key isn't it. I hope somebody finds your bag, I would think it was not somebody using Kew but an opportunist from outside. Not that it makes it any better, but you may feel more comfortable about going to Kew.

LadyKira Report 8 Aug 2009 00:49

Oh dear that was upsetting for you.

I am afraid though that the NHS are unlikely to help with your glasses.

At your sight test you will be issued a voucher if

your prescription has changed or if your glasses are unservicable due to fair wear and teat and only if you fulfill one the following criteria

If you are under 16
under 19 and in full time education
Some form of income support
over 60 and on pension credit guarantee credit
income based jobseekers allowance
working family tax credit with a card
and a new benefit whose name escapes me
or if you have been issued an HC2 or 3 certificate.

Over 16's are not generally issued with repair replacement vouchers unless they can prove their glasses have been lost or broken due to an illness or disability.

Berona Report 8 Aug 2009 00:38

I don't think you would have been able to claim on insurance, if you did have any. It's like motor vehicle insurance. You can't claim for replacement, if you left the keys in the lock - so that rules that out.

Yes, you must feel violated and I feel for you. Somebody knows who your bankers are, how much money you carry around, etc. None of their business! I would be pushing for the CCTV to be checked quickly in the hope of finding the culprit but the annoying part is the nuisance of having to wait for everything to be replaced and the money lost - and of course, you can't replace the photo - that probably hurts more than anything.
Hope it all gets sorted out soon for you.

Hazel, when I had my handbag stolen out of our car I didn't expect to see it again but it was found dumped on a building site a few days later and lots of personal stuff inc photos were still in it, so keep in touch with the local police as someone may find it and hand it in.

Yes the staff took in the the office and made calls to all who i had to like credit cards ect.

They also let me phone my daugther, made me tea and looked after me.

Being i go there alot i have got to know some of them very well. So when they saw i was upset they came to see if anything they can do.

Yes police were informed, but said not alot they can do until watched the videos of the day to see what that shows.

So i know i will not get it back.

I feel dity in a way, someone taking and touching my things.

And being most of them that go to Kew are not young are they?

Dear TreeHunter

Hello

I am very sorry to hear about this.

Try and see if you can get help with a pair of glasses from the NHS.

Have you contacted the bank about credit cards?

Did the archives place call the police?

The CCTV can be checked and enhanced to see who was in the area at that time. Once someone has been spotted, the police can take action.

Take care of yourself.

Very best wishes
xx

Hazel

Thinking about it, I suppose anyone could walk into the locker area - no checks are made on who comes into the building. Perhaps they should step up the security on the Ground Floor. How sad about the photo - I'm really sorry.
