I can't bear to read this thread, even the heading sends shivers down my back. I don't have many good memories associated with Christmas and am depressed enough seeing summer ticking away with the thought of that word cropping up.

Dear Purple

Hello

I understand what you mean

Everyone is supposed to be jolly and happy and belching over the food
at big family get togethers.

In reality, there are usually rows, snipes and too much spent.

Emotions are heightened at this time.

Sometimes, if you are lucky you can find moments of unexpected peace that come along.

Best wishes
xx

Thanks Elizabeth, I agree with you totally. Far too much hype and expense especially as things get tighter with people's budgets.

I really only enjoy Christmas when there are little ones around and as we have no littlies in the family, the magic isn't there in the same way. It's all pressure, pressure, pressure and I don't look forward to it at all, the only nice bit is the sending and receiving of cards and messages to stay in touch with old and new friends, and family.

Today, being chauffeured to the hospital in Derby, we went past the Derbyshire Cricket ground, and there was a large hoarding advertising bookings being taken now for Christmas functions. Couldn't believe me eyes, I couldn't. I was totally gob-smacked

Daff, you have more reasons than many of the rest of us to enjoy this Christmas. But I enjoy it also. We always go out to a nice little country Dickensian Inn for Christmas day dinner as there is only the two of us these days. I managed Christmas day okey, watching what I had to eat and drink, but Boxing Day was a different day altogether, and I spent that night on a trolly in A & E, and the next few days on the Surgical Assessment Ward. Just one of the 30 times I have been admitted in the last 18 months, and still on going. But I have always liked Christmas especially putting up the 'decorations'. Looking forward to this year's

We live near the beach and this evening my grown up daughter said she was looking forward to going to the beach at Christmas - as we do every year - when it is cold and windy!
