Neither children and there were six of them nor grandchildren, ages 2 years to 12 have had TVs in their bedrooms, neither do we have a TV in our bedroom........

No one seems to have sufferd, and we enjoyed having the family with us.

Now none of the children watch a great deal of TV unless it is Sports or documentary.....They all love their music and all read a great deal also enjoy cinema.

Eldest grandson does only recently have a computer in his room BUt with full parental control.

He is into making his own animated films!

Lol! Mick. I'm old enough to remember not being allowed to READ in bed after a certain time. Mind you, those ogham sticks were very uncomfortable if you laid on them...

Dear All

Hello

We have television in the house.

It is ONE TV in the living room and we all use it!

No individual TV's until the person is old enough to pay the bill.

The youngsters can play scrabble, sew, knit, read, paint.
All creative activities and we can talk.

There is far too much technology now.

Whilst some has been great, it has caused a lot of isolation.

Very best wishes to all
xx

None of mine got any entertainment in their rooms other than a clock radio (to wake them up!) until they bought their own. They all preferred to buy stereos first.

Saturday mornings was bedlam in our house, until they decided to tune all their stereos into the same morning program (for teens), and they opened their windows - so we had "surround sound" all around the house - inside and out!

Prefer them to read Mufy - lol
My 7 year old grandaughteer is here tonight.
She went to bed later than she should (well us granandparents are allowed to do that) then said she'd like to read.
Okay says I - they're on the shelf.
Went back up after 15 minutes to find she didn't have a 'normal' book that you read - she had a book of mine that turns into a fairy castle!! LOL 10/10 for originality and nerve!!

*Note to self - must hide own books*

age 13...maybe 16...and even then twas only so's they can watch it now and then....they become too isolated otherwise. To be turned off before bedtime.

Yes some have one at a younger age....but tis a no no really...just think about the fors and against......the against far outweigh the fors......common sense really....pressures are put on us left right and centre...tis easy to give in....but later in life...they will tell you that they knew you were right....just wanted to push to see how far they can go....Guilt shouldn't be a reason to give in to what one knows is common sense...otherwise the child will rule over the parents as the are many many reasons we could feel guilty when there is no real reason to.......Love and common sense.....not Guilt and blackmail should be the way.....In my opinion, that is :-)))

I had half made up my mind to allow weekend and holiday access........just remember a friend of mine rueing the day she allowed a tv set into her daughters room as she couldn't then sleep without it being on......same old story I spose.........everything in moderation........and I like Amandas idea of using it as a punishment *evil cackle* there you go.......I did it lol xx

Hi. My three kids had tv in their rooms and it never did them any harm. When they were young i use to limit them to how much they could watch plus it use to be a reward for them when they had been really good or done something without moaning

Never allowed TV's in their rooms as children. We watched TV together. They did have their own cassette players then cd players in their rooms. Of course it's personal opinion and I wouldn't criticise anyone who allows its. My daughter's eldest - 5 today - has a portable DVD player which he loves.

They for sure wouldn't have Sky in their rooms and the analogue reception here is pants so it's most likely DVDs or nowt lol..

I have said I'd rig one up when we get the return sleepover next week.......for a quiet life........coward that I am lol..........

I'd prefer them to read tbh so I may just put in it for weekends and school holidays but even then.........one abuse and it's gone xx

An advantage to having a TV in their room is that if you have to punish them you can always take it away for a week or a few days.........almost slipped out an evil cackle then ............lol

My daughter ( 15 ) has had a TV in her room for several years but no ariel attached , she watches dvds . If she wants to watch something and it isn't on downstairs she watches in our bedroom .
If you let yours have a TV ( with ariel ) you can't be sure they arn't watching something unsuitable .

My Grand children have had a TV ( for vidios / dvds ) more or less since baby hood . They can't sleep unless it's on !!
Good luck : ))

Gypsy Report 22 Aug 2009 22:03

My children are 8, 10 and 12 andeach have a tv in their rooms, and have had for a few years - Certainly the eldest.
I think it all comes down to moderation.
My children are not allowed to watch their tv before bed unless it's a Friday or Saturday and they are not allowed it on before school either.
I don't mind them having the tv's as long as they obey the rules. I have never had a problem with the rules. If I found they were watching tv on a school night, Tv would be removed. Simple.
