When I was young, I read a cautionary tale about a little girl who used her mum's pressure cooker to make a cake. I think it ended with an explosion, and a hole in the ceiling. I've been terrified of them ever since!

I had one nearly forty years ago, frightened the life out of me so I ditched it...lol If I remember rightly I had to drop the weight on when it was hissing like hell :-((
My sister always used hers and when she did I stayed out of the kitchen !

I agree with Jeanette, would not be without mine. Food in a pressure cooker keeps all its flavour and gravy made from the stock and juices..........................mmmmmmmmm to die for

Thanks all for your input........I just did some beef for a steak & kid pie, think I over cooked tbh.......but it is very tender,,,,. I have the Tefal cooker, it has just the one weight on top (not like the various weights my mum had on her one)...

Now, can I add my gravy from the start or should I not...........

& should i cook stewing steak on high pressure or is it ok on low??

*blushes* oops.... forgot me tenna, lol

I was always told to thicken afterwards..... and used to start off stewing steak on high, then go to low... but this was 15 years ago..... can't remember how long for... have you googled? Or go to About.com... they have some pretty good info on that site.

Have to say, the first couple of times I used my first, I'd hide behind the door, lol..... but I did get used to it.... some friends of hours nearly had heart failure when I had both going full blast, lol.... the noise! But it does settle down.

Pass me some tenna quick! What are you all like?
Whirley you wil grow to love it and wonder whatever you did without it. Especially with Christmas coming. The best ham you've ever cooked! The best stews the best veg.so quick.
I never tried puddings though or jams.
I have memory of my Aunty scraping jam off the ceiling!!!
Mine went to saucepan scrap yard in heaven about a year ooh maybe two years ago, so served us about most of our married life..
I am still waiting for tight wad hubby to buy me another!!!

Good to see you back
Love Tricia xx
