Thanks everyone, for taking the time to reply.

There are indeed, a few avenues that I still have to explore, to find out the legalities here.

Cheers

I'd go with what Uzzi suggests and check with your local authority. Certainly, in England nd Wales,a few years ago, a grandparent would have to be looking after another (non-relative's) child, before their relative would be able to claim the relevant allowance. It may be different if you are looking after your grandchildren in their own home as opposed to yours; but, again, I'd check to see how the law stands at the moment.

I seem to remember this is something the current government were advocating a few years ago. Wouldn't suprise me if they'd done an about turn.

I take it that she receives money for childcare, if that is the case then I would check with the authorities. Allthough if you register as a childminder I wouldn't see a problem. Do check it tho'

As long as the money she pays you is from her own pocket and not funded by the taxpayer, I can't see any reason why you can't be paid.

That is a private arrangement between the two of you.

Hello everyone. Iam hoping that someone will be able to clarify things for me.

At present I am gran to a 4 and 6 year old. No3 is due to join us in June. My daughter uses a childminder, as she works full time.

She has asked if I would do this for her, after new baby arrives. My daughter thought that she would be able to give me her childcare money, as I am a nursery nurse, and I am prepared to become a registered childminder.

I have now heard, via another site, that as a grandparent, I can only be paid, If I am also looking after another child, too, who is a non- relative.

I would appreciate any input. Also, I don't know if the law is any different up here in Scotland, or whether is a general government decision.

Cheers
