Stray - that's what we get if we're not home when they ring. We got home from a night out with friends and it was late. Our son seriously asked why we were so late and said that he was worried about us. I almost apologised:-)) |

Don't you find that, the older you get, the more right you are? |

What amazes me with OH's hearing aids is that when they need adjusting then he goes into the centre and they connect them up to a computer and adjust them until he's happy. |

I have 3 positions on my aids. central for loop, bottom for talking one to one, albeit you can still hear some noise and top for listening to the TV and you can hear everyone else's conversation in restaurants. |

Joan - my daughter was looking through some old photos one day and said "Mum you were gorgeous when you were younger". Not sure what she meant by that:-)) |

My husband has hearing aids. He found it hard to adjust to them to start with as he could hear all noises magnified. He would complain that in the supermarket he could hear every trolley rattle and in restaurants he could hear other people's conversations which distracted him when we were talking. Luckily that seems to have settled. |

Ann, the pretty walking sticks are available here in quite a few places, CANT remember where now! I have a friend who takes her hearing aid out to make a phone call, I turn the sound up on mine and use the system where anyone can hear it. When I find traffic noise too loud I turn my aids to loop, and that deadens it. |

Berona, bite the bullet and get one. There are some very pretty coloured ones around in UK that I have seen people using, not sure if they bought them here or not though. Would a walking pole help your balance? Maybe you wouldn't feel so self conscious if you used one of those. |

My doc looked very embarrassed when she suggested that I buy a walking stick - but my daughter keeps ringing me asking "when are we going out to get this walking stick?". I keep putting it off, but at the same time, I won't go outside my home. Haven't checked my mailbox for a week because there is nothing to 'grab' if my knee should fail on me. The only way I check my mailbox now is when I drive my car out the drive and park in the gutter - close to the box - so I know I need the stick to give me the confidence I need, but it's hard to admit it. I'm not looking forward to the day when I give up driving! |

Aged BIL chooses to have selective deafness, if he stays with us he keeps his hearing aid in his pocket despite me nagging like hell. |

Thinking, maybe your BiL has a phone that is not compatible with his aids. Before digital aids if you used an ordinary phone you would get painful feedback noise. |
