Hi

a little update.

OH finally managed to talk to J this morning. He phoned about 7am our time, which was 11 am their time.

Matthew was doing well, and was expected to be released from IC round about lunch time.

M spent the night at the hosptial (husbands are allowed to sleep in wife's room now), and had gone to check on Matthew during the night. Then J&M were called down to IC about 9am or so ....... Mattthew was doing well but was hungry! He had been on an IV overnight, and had received nothing else.

J said he latched on right away, and knew exactly what to do. So all seems well

They have not found out what caused the problem ..................... one fear had been that the umbilical cord was around his neck, which it wasn't. Now one theory is that he may have been lying on the cord and compressing it every now and again.

Anyway, there seems to be no lasting problem.

He has a slight bruise on his forehead from the forceps.

They will be in hopsital at least until tomorrow, or possibly until Friday depending on Matthew's condition and progress.

Thank you all.

I've bought a couple of new knitting books full of lovely modern designs as we have a grandchild due in the late summer.

The designs are lovely but are all knitted in organic cotton.

Won't that take forever to dry?

Thank you Margot

Liz ..................

He was about 3½ weeks early, due date was March 30th

Her in-laws have spent 3-4 months down in Florida for the last 4 or 5 years, usually January through to end April. We call such people Snowbirds up here .... they're escaping the snow.

They changed their timing this winter because of the baby, so they would be away beginning December to end of March. This means they planned to leave Florida about 20th of March and get home 5 or 6 days later. In fact J said a couple of weeks that in-laws were due to arrive back on March 28th.

Can just imagine that she'll be rushing back now ................... and with a car ful of baby clothes!

I was under strict instructions not to knit anything pink (daughter really dislikes pink) or blue ............... although "some shades of blue are OK".

Currently I'm knitting green and white ........... but it means that those peach and yellow cardies that I have knitted at the cabin in summers past will have to go to other babies, as they were originally planned to.

I think beiges, browns and possibly creams might be the new colours!!

Sylvia, oh a shield, whatever next lol, that spoils all the fun lol

I hope little Matthew will soon be out of intensive care and has no further problems. Is he early, as m.i.l. didn't get her timing right? It's probably as well she isn't around, your daughter needs rest now while Matthew recovers from the birth too and if son-i-l's sis is around, that's enough for the mo.

Hope all goes well and get on with that blue knitting!

When I had my son I was convinced I was having a girl, so had mostly white or lemon things. When I finally got out of hospital 10 days later, I went straight out to the sales - he was born in July - and had a whale of a time buying lovely little blue things for him. He did wear a few apricot coloured angel tops I had previously crocheted for my daughter, but she never wore them as she didn't make it and they were just right for over his babygros at night.

Hi everyone

Thank you all so much!

Liz ..... apparently you can buy a shield now for little boys! Son-i-l said he was definitely going to buy "one of those" if baby was a boy ..... so I guess he will be going shopping soon!!!

Just had a long talk to s-i-l who was at home briefly before going back to the hospital.

Matthew is still in Intensive Care. His heart rate had dropped and recovered several times, but then dropped very low, and did not then recover, when they first told J to push, so they got him out quickly. Then they had to work on him to get him to breathe .................... so he is being treated as a baby in distress. Other vital signs seem to be good, but they need to be sure.

J's sis-i-l was staying with Matthew in Intensive Care until daddy got back.

It seems that Matthew will be in Intensive Care until at least tomorrow morning.

Son-i-l has got the rest of this week off work (he's a teacher), goes back next week, and then it is March break .................... so he will be able to be home for quite a lot of time. His sister will also be able to help out. He sees no need for us to change our current plans, unless J decides otherwise.

His parents are still in Florida, and I would guess that his mother is kicking herself 'cos she desperately wanted to be there in the hospital when the baby was born ................... she wanted to be in the delivery room but J&M said a very definite NO to that!

Many congratulations Sylvia, on your little grandson's birth, so glad things turned out well and hope his Mummy and Daddy are calming down a little now, must have been a bit panicky at one stage. May he have a healthy happy life, bless him.

I hope by the time you visit they will have got used to the fountains lol, my son managed to piddle across the ward and score a direct hit on another baby's cot, when I was new at changing him lol
My Dad, who always wore a tie, even at home, picked my son up one day when he didn't have a nappy on and my son soaked Grandad's tie lol

Yes, a new phase of our life!

Now I'd better get knitting "boy" style!! J didn't want to know the sex, but did want me to knit for her (only NOT pink or blue)

.... I ended up doing one little thing with buttonholes on both borders :))))

Linda ...... I will indeed say hello to Mahone Bay, one of my favourite places. I'm hoping we will get time to slip over there.
