Anybody live near Caerphilly, yes I know somebody must but does anybody on here?
We like that cheap shop there and also love the valleys so we will go down there for the day again.
I would like to buy some locally produced Caerphilly cheese, preferably not in a supermarket.Does anyboady know where I can do that please?

I haven't eaten Caerphilly cheese for well over twenty years but we can't stay away overnight so we have these days out where wetry to buy some local food.We bought some jam in Essex last week.
Any more suggestions gratefully received.

A Farmer's Market in that area might be worth checking.

I don't know about that area, but the one in Winchester has suppliers from quite a wide area of that county, so perhaps it's the same in that area.

I just had a look on Google.
Castle Dairies are near Caerphilly, but on an industrial estate, - not sure if they make what you're after,or whether more of a 'commercial' out-put.

Interesting other cheeses to be had in Wales though, apparently.

I had a look on their site and they only do bulk butter.

I know there is excellent ice-cream to be had in Ebbw Vale and was hoping somebody might have some local knowledge of somebody producing cheese.

Possibly you could try searching for farm shops or delis in the area. I know that there are local cheeses available from these around here that you would never find in a supermarket

Hi

My family are from that area, but I have not been there for many years now. I understood that Caerphilly cheese has not been made in Caerphilly for years. Now only made commercially in large factories.

Googling it seems the only Caerphilly Cheese considered as the real deal is made in Ceredigion

Well,do you know,I have found a place that makes it and it is only eighty-five miles away from Caerphilly in Newcastle Emlyn.

Think we might shelve that idea then.

Any other suggestions as to what we might buy around there?

There's likely to be a tea-shop selling home-made Welsh cakes.

or take some butter home to make your own ?

How about larva bread.will I like that?

It's not to everyone's taste.... Quite tasty though made into small pats and fried with bacon...... Builds Rugby teams, ..Lol
. Some of the small town markets sell it, but it is much sloppier than home produced stuff, but that is sooo labour intensive.
Not sure how far inland you will find it.

Give it a try, ...it's something different.

Yeast cake or Bara Brith are other Welsh cakes worth trying.

Build your own rugby team, now that sounds interesting.

I don't eat bacon, can you have it with something else?Vege rashers at a push I suppose.

Looks like it is going to have to be Sidoli's again.I know I like that!

Hi Sharon,

found this - the company is called,Norbiton Fine Cheese Co
you can buy over the internet and this is what they say ...............

We only sell Farmhouse and small quantity artisanal cheeses, and we are proud to say that you will not find a single mass produced cheese on this site. You will, however, find many of your old favourites such as Cheddars, Bries and Blues, but these aren’t your run of the mill cheeses, these are some of the best of their kind, with many winning gold medals and being AOC accredited. Why not come and visit us in Kingston to see our full range; our shop is open Wednesday to Saturday, 9.00am - 6.00pm.

Our Service

To ensure absolute freshness, all cheeses are delivered using 24 dispatch. We use high quality insulated packaging with chill pouches that keep the cheese at an optimal temperature for 24 hours or longer. This helps to ensure you get your order in the same perfect condition as when it left us.

Thanks for that but Kingston would be a different day out.

Did you know you have a really cracking spelling mistake, the best I have seen?I love it but it does put me off the cheese a bit.

I am not criticising your typing and I don't usually notice spelling mistakes as I make them myself but it is wonderful.Has really cheered me up.

Sharron

Sharron Report 13 Mar 2010 18:21

Looked again and don't think you have made a mistake. That can't be a word can it?They have made it up surely.

Don't fancy that cheese much!
Not a spelling mistake, have been on their site.
