Joanna,

I always use Firefox and never have any problems. It isn't GR's fault that you are having to log back in each time you access the site, although they could sometimes be a bit forthcoming when advising on this sort of problem. The information which tells the system to do this is actually held on your PC by way of a cookie. not by GR.

There are two things that you need to check. First of all, when you log in from scratch, make sure you tick the box next to 'Remember me'. This leaves a message on your PC to that effect. Secondly, in Firefox, you will see a little drop down box, near the top right of the screen, asking if you want Firefox to save your password. You need to select this too.

Also, if you use a program such as Ccleaner to tidy up your pc, make sure that you save all the cookies for your favourite sites by whitelisting them.

Joanna, I do not believe they read the comments on here unless their attention is drawn to them in a complaint. Sometimes I wish they would because the management team would then know what enhancements their clientele require.

Marion. This is not World War 3, this is a very intelligent, thought provoking debate. And I never did receive a flyer which means Australians must either be the good persons or they ran out before they reached our shores!!!

We will all agree to have our own views on the subject which is exactly how it should be. I would hate to have everyone think the same as I do, it would be a very boring old world, and who would provide my arguments.

AuntySherlock,

Thank you for your earlier tip; now I now don't have to type my email addy in every time I want to access Genes.
I am sorry not to get back to you before now, but at last I have taken your advice - and it works, as long as I am not using Firefox, which I do normally use as it is much faster and slicker.
Now I am forced to use Internet Explorer again to access Genes, and it is very sluggish.
Surely Genes ought to realise that their users want to be able to use the fastest and most up-to-date methods of accessing their site?
Do you think they might actually read the comments on here?
Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Joanna x

Whoo hooo. More members of the GR Flyerless Club. We will have a quorum shortly.

Hmm then we will need an approach to GR for ignoring us, and an approach to the Flyer Receivers with a suggestion we might be able to borrow their flyers for a while, just so we feel included.

When I received this email I just thought well done GR for taking on board the many threads that I have seen of late where members were complaining about possible contacts not replying to pms sent. Nothing more nothing less!

Joanna. I would assume you have tried this, but I will mention it anyway.

Log into GR, right click anywhere on page and create a shortcut (click the words).

Delete your old icon from your desktop and try the new one. You may have to log in the first time.

I have just done it and I did not need to log in again. I have changed from the Australian site to the UK site, another story.

There's a simple answer...if you don't want GR to contact you
"You can easily change the optional emails you choose to receive from us on the "My Account Details" page once you've signed-in to"

Joanna

Joanna Report 27 Mar 2010 20:32

I received the unexpected reminder too, and I have NO unanswered mails in my Genes inbox! I am the one who is lucky if I get a reply to my queries, I do answer mails to me, one way or another.
And I am seriously fed-up with Genes. After several years on here, now, for some reason, I have to type in my email address every time I want access. WHY?? They can remember my password - but not my email addy.
My live-in IT expert cannot remedy this, and says it is something to do with the whole Genes set-up.
OK, no big deal, but annoying all the same.

Good morning all.

Now would everyone who has not had a flyer from GR please stand over this side of the room.

Thank you.

Hmmm quite a lot I see. We will now convene our first meeting of "The Society of GR Flyerless Members".

We of course are the perfect members. Those who do not need to be sent reminders for doing what GR deems to be the appropriate.

All TSGF members will now glare at those who did receive flyers. Glare.

Now we will sit down and work out how we can best re-educate these unfortunate beings.

Actually I think the communication demonstrates that GR is interested in the welfare of its members and is trying to support this unique concept of helping other researchers. From our angle we are able to see other ways this could be achieved. Matter of persuading GR to listen to our ideas.

Also it would be interesting to discover if there is a connection between the log in site and whether or not you received a "communication flyer".

The Australian site .com.au is currently experiencing problems. Are there any Aussies who normally log on there who received a reminder. Likewise with the other far flung friends.

I was taken aback because I always answer emails - then I realised it was a circular and just hoped it might have some effect. Last batch of Hot Matches I sent 3 messages to pretty obvious matches offering information, they have all been opened and not one reply or acknowledgment, not even a polite "no thanks"
