My great-grandparents are an interesting mixture - the eldest (mum's maternal grandad) was born in 1860 but the youngest (dad's maternal grandma) wasn't born until 1893.

The biggest age gap I've got between my great-grandparents as couples is between my mum's maternal grandparents (eight years and five months) and the smallest is between her paternal grandparents (eighteen months).

I have a birthday card written to me by my great aunts who were born in 1881 and 1882. They were the sisters of my grandfather. Now I feel old:-))

Of the ones I've been able to find, 1842 is the earliest.
Another was baptised towards the end of 1843, but I've never found a date of birth for him.

My eldest great grandparent was only born in 1893 and his wife in 1897. The other set of great grandparents were born in 1919 and 1920.

My grandfather was born in 1918 meaning my paternal grandfather is older than my maternal great grandparents.

Round about 1860s and 1870s. Seems really strange now, that I actually knew one of them, that it was so long ago they were born.

They are all clustered around the early 1850's, with my Mum's Mum's Mum being the eldest, born in 1850.

I'm feelng positively juvenile. My eldest great-grand was born right at the end of 1851. (The others were all born in the 1860s.)

Interesting pattern in many of these posts -- I too am from his second marriage, and my grandfather was his youngest child, born when my gr-grf was 50 -- almost to the day, I hadn't really thought about that before! And that gr-grf also outlived all the others. Huh!

Mine were born in the 1860's. I have it in the back of my mind that I met my Gt. Grandfather when I was a child, but distant cousins say I couldn't have. Maybe their minds are as vague as mine, but I can swear I went into his house several times, and saw him sitting in his chair. That would have to have been in the late 1950's, very early 60's.
I suppose if I had his dod, I would know for sure.

Sue he goes to the top of the class. With a GR grandparent born 1820 he must be the oldest on here so I have to respect him. Mom taught me to respect my elders see.
