When I hang up a clothes hanger I always put it on the rail with the open end of the hook facing away from me. OH always puts them up with the open end facing him. Is this just us, or have I discovered a new difference between men and women?

I do it your way too Jean. As Black Country Chap says it is quicker and easier.

Seems like my OH is in the minority. He always was contrary!Food that everyone else is enjoying, ' I dont like this, no taste to it' and if you put flavouring in its too much!

I do it your way too Jean. It really annoys me when OH puts them the other way : )

I face them forward, same as most folk.

Does anyone else have a thing about which way the toilet roll opens.

I like it over the top, find myself changing other peoples sometimes.

Surely tins facing front is just practical, you can see what you want without turning them all round.

Dianne Report 30 Mar 2010 00:17

I hang them up facing away too. I also have to put the hangers into the clothes so that the hook looks like a question mark ( ? ) when the front of the garment is facing me. On the odd occasion when I have had to use the launderette for my washing and ironing they send them back with the hook like a reverse question mark when the garment is facing me and I just have to remove the hangers and turn them round before putting things away in the wardrobe.

I do the loo roll with the paper hanging down at the front, and I sort my cupboards according to type with as much as possible facing forward. Tinned fruits all have to be together, tinned veg next, soups next, the same way they would be set out in a shop. It's much easier to see what I'm running short of when it comes to doing my shopping list.

Old habits do die hard, David. Still like my shoes well polished.
As to loo rolls, we disagree over that, too, but his way is best in a small loo, or you keep knocking the roll and it unwinds!!

Annina

Annina Report 30 Mar 2010 12:57

I found out the hard way to hang my loo roll with the paper coming down the back.

We never bother closing doors in our house,so the first time I used our brand new bathroom, nudged the loo roll off with my fat backside. It flew out of the door, bounced off the facing wall, shot down the stairs unrolling as it travelled, and eventually came to rest in the living room at my hubby's feet.

It looked like an ad for a famous brand.

Karen, using matching pegs is carrying things a bit far!!

Dianne

Dianne Report 30 Mar 2010 22:48

Come to think of it Karen, I do that with my clothes too. Trousers and skirts in one wardrobe and tops in the other one. The only exception is when a top and bottom are to match each other, ie a trouser suit, then they are on the same hanger in the jackets section. Tights on the left in one drawer with socks on the right, and in the drawer below bras on the left with knickers on the right. I don't do matching pegs on the line, but I do tend to hang all shirts together, all trousers together, all towels together etc with undies on those multi-peg thingies.

Blimey I didn't realise I had such compulsive behaviour !!!

I am with the majority here re coat hangers etc but Karen, I never have enough notes in my purse to sort them into denominations lol

One thing I do is put tins away upside down, especially if soup or beans etc, means when I open them the contents aren't stuck to the bottom of the tin so I don't waste any.

Nina, had to laugh at the loo roll's journey lol

First time I can remember a thread of mine going to 2 pages! We do seem to be tidy on the most part, but I cant claim to be one of the majority in that respect. Too much stuff, not enough storage or space!!

Hi, can I add some of my ways with clothes, I roll all my trouser up and they go in a drawer, I roll all my undies too and I roll as much as I can, they never crease and take up less room, we pack that way when we go on hols.
Bedding is in roller boxes under the beds, jewellry hang on a wooden cup holder, get more on and easier to see,I also swap winter stuff and put in drawers, summer stuff goes in the wardrobe...I keep all my skirts together and same with tops, cardigans I fold and stack on a shelf in the wardrobes, scarves rolled up in small drawer, socks tights all together, I am all for ease and less work at my age...lol...I am the same as all of you with food tins faced so I can see what we have, I love this thread, Jean ....

OH and I do hangers the same way the majority do and loo roll end over the top to the front too.......and group tins according to what's in them.
Jean, I roll undies and trousers too and ' turn' pairs of socks into a ball. I group my tops together sleeves next to sleeveless and then by colour. I'm not very good with notes in my purse, but OH not only seperates them, they all have to be the same way up and right way around too!!

I have lots of cut down cardboard boxes in my drawer and group my makeup in there, lipsticks in one, foundations, mascaras and eye pencils, eyeshadows in others. I use an old ferraro rocher box for my earings. I have little boxes in the bathroom cabinet too, sticking plasters and tape in one, tubes of things in another.....easier to lift out and clean under. OMG I use these cut down boxes everywhere.......in the kitchen drawers to stack sauce/ custard packets, spice bottles. LOL

Karen in the desert Report 31 Mar 2010 13:23

Oh yes, Ann, you've just reminded me of the usefulness of those Ferrero Rocher boxes. Marvellous for jewellery, ie bangles & beads, and also for keeping makeup tidy in drawers and for bits & bobs in bathroom cabinet. Glad to know I'm not the only one who saves and uses boxes!

Re: coathangers.
I learned of a good tip. You could do this, say once a year, or thereabouts?? It might go against the grain, but why not try this experiment.......
Take all your clothes out of the wardrobe and put them all back in with the hangers facing the 'wrong' way, ie open end towards you.
After each time you have worn something you are allowed to put it back in facing the 'right' way.
At the end of 6 months, a year, or however loong you choose, if you find still have any coathangers facing the wrong way, then it's time to get rid of that item of clothing....because you have just proved to yourself that you no longer need it!!
Or at least it sets you thinking!

I used to put coloured clothes pegs in a particular order (rainbow - roygbiv) but am now cured.
Which sock or tights-leg do you put on first - left or right?

It would seem I pass muster on all the things on this thread.
BUT. And it is a big but, I despair of bank notes, both from the dispenser and the bank.
I was always taught that the Queen's head faced the front, and upright, no matter what denomination. In my younger day, dealing with money, this was how it was always done, and it has stayed with me ever since, whether I am paying in cash, or drawing it out.
These days, when OH,fetches the pensions from the Cash Point, they come anyhow, back to front, upside down and dog eared. I really do despair, and the first thing I do, is straighten up the notes and put them the right way up, Queen's head facing the front.
To me, it is as if the people working in the banks have no pride in their work anymore. And yes, I know it is all done by a collating machine, but it still annoys me
