Well, I live on a state hand-out. Its called an Old Aged Pension, and I am more than old enough to draw it. I paid into it, so now I am enjoying the spoils, if you can call it that.
Aswell as bringing up four children, and having a job of some sort whilst they were growing up, I also took up further education, which I paid for myself. When married daughter decided to go to University at night, I looked after her four sons aswell as still going to work, and going through the change.
Nowadays, when not on the comp. or houseworking, as many of us do, I am seriously into serious gardening, helping OH with the allotment, where we grow our own veggies and fruit to help eke out the pension.
Though have spent possibly half of the last two years in hospital, I still am able to maintain everything in the home and garden that I need to do.
As has been mentioned, these remarks were made by someone who does not live in this country, so they were very uncalled for. Posted to get a reaction. She needs to get a life.

Speaking as a supreme idler and wastrel, I think I have earned my free time after years of seeing to others........ mind you the family now think that I have retired and have spare time, they can put it to good use by doing things for them....

......on another tack, but much the same theme.......when OH and I spent years trying for a family with no results......a few people who didn't know us well, said that we were being selfish not having a family........how stupid is that.........so all those people who choose not to have a family for some reason are selfish.........still trying to work that one out......
