£1 is brilliant for a cod fillet......I , put it in the microwave with a glass dish on top for 1 - 2 minutes and its done, then black pepper and some aunt bessies mash on top.....some peas a few carrotts......lovely.....

Just thinking about new potatoes, sounds good with the salmon fillet and a bit of green salad.......busy thinking up 101 ways with salmon.....

A**A had cod fillets on offer at the fresh fish counter at a £1 each no matter what weight, so I had one, put in the bag with some plain butter and have just finished it, had it with tinned jersey royals and garden peas, It was delicious, Cats now won't leave me alone as they can smell the fish.

You are so right supercrutch, Tescos throttle the smaller guy.......but we have no wet fish place in Hemel......only the counter in Tescos where they have been selling some whoppers of salmon 1/2 price......I asked the man to weigh one up for me and I was going to have a dab at filleting the thing myself.........so I asked him to take its head off.........to give me a head start, so to speak......well.....he said how did I want it.......and I said, like those £2 fillets I buy.......£1,24 when they want to get rid of them.......quick breath.......well, he said he could do that, and did I want the skin on......I said no......so he said to OH......come back in 10 minutes and it will be ready......

......loads of fillets all wrapped in tinfoil in the freezer and a couple given to Daughter and SiL........worked it out that if I had bought that number of fillets at £2 a pop, it would have cost over £40, and we only paid £13 odd for the salmon......so its a result.....

They were Sally...lol

We both love fish but it's so damn expensive, I bulk buy when it's on offer as we eat it 2/3 times a week. Crazy prices considering we are smack next to the sea but as all the small shops have been forced out of business by T**** they dictate prices.

Thanks for letting us know the reason behind eating fish on Good Friday......it is a thing we mostly always did, so just followed along.....

OH had two jacket potatoes with cheese......could have had tuna but fancied jackets instead.....but.....

......I had a small salmon steak and some fresh tagliatelli and mixed it with cherry tomatoes, cubed cucumber, 1/2 small tub of plain Philly cheese, 1 tbsp set plain yoghurt and 1 tbsp of Hellmans mayo mixed together and run through the pasta......bit of sea salt, loads of black pepper and I still have some left over.....

Got some salmon and cucumber sandwiches from Tesco for tonight, but OH has beef and horseradish......does like his meat, that one.....and he is having a couple of hot cross buns after......

Your bacon rolls sound scrummy supercrutch......

*Looks at lamb in the fridge ready for Sunday roast*

Oops!!

We are having smoked, undyed haddock for dinner today... but littlie and me have already had a bacon and mushroom sarnie, lol... oh, and I cooked the mince etc... all in the slow cooker to meld together... for the spagh bol tomorrow.

I dunno, it sort of becomes a tradition, I suppose, with the origins lost in time! I know it is religious now, but it wouldn't always have been, would it?

The new baby lamb with early veg would have been very welcome after a long hard winter living on pickles and wotnot....... and the days leading up to that lamb being big enough to feed a family of 20 (lol) would have been about 40/42 ish (6 weeks) so even Lent has it's origins in plain old necessitie... wouldn't have been enough food going around, would there?

I like smelly fish, as my granddaughter calls it..... and you don't often see it undyed.... I am sensitive to the dyes used.... so I get it when I see it.....

Lamb.... well, I love lamb! Hubby's favourite....

Stray, just enjoy what you want to enjoy,.

Mind..... I never quite worked out the hot cross bun thing.... although I guess it's the cross that is important.

My Nan used to make Simnel cake for Easter..... but wasn't it Marie Antoinette who was supposed to have told the hoi poloi to eat cake.... *shakes head in bewilderment*

Love

Lots of toads round here at the moment, Kitty! I'll parcel a few up for you if you like.

MMMM, What a lovely menu, supercrutch! I don't think a bag of porky scratchings would have been very welcome there, somehow.

supercrutch Report 2 Apr 2010 14:47

Eldrick, you might want to avoid these too, sadly that includes wine but hey look on the bright side you can still have beer :-))

You get somewhat of a clue when Jesus gives the disciples communion. They had wine and unleavened bread (without yeast).

As this was a Passover Seder meal observance, the following would have been served, as a minimum:

Matzah - unleavened bread.

Wine

Maror and Chazeret - two sorts of various bitter herbs....possibilities include lettuce, endive, pepper grass,or watercress.

Karpas - a vegetable dipped in salt water and vinegar.

Z'roar - roasted lamb shank.
