I don't think me or my sister had dummies.I think it would have been a good idea though for my sister to have had one.Just to shut her up lol
My favourite doll was Angela. She had walkie legs and a rubber face.As the years went by her face got more and more orange coloured lol.and her hair seemed to turn into wire wool !!.Her eyes blinked when I walked her.
Another of my fav's was my Golly.
Chris bought a Dummy for Hannah after many a disturbed night.I was very anti it at the time, but soon came round to it when I realised it was doing both Hannah and us good lol.She had a dummy until she was nearly 3,and then one day she said "I don't want this anymore" and put it in the bin.End of Dummy.

hi All

We were just talking today about why we call baby dummies -Dummies, In the USA it's a pacifer, I can understand that to pacify the baby. but why a dummy. can anyone tell me.
Anyway as I worked in a childrens nursery before I got married and had my kids, It was sort of frowned on to use a dummy so daughter no 1 never had one. and she was a rotten sleeper. by the time daughter no 2 came along I changed my thoughts and gave daughter no 2 one she had it till she was three and gave it to santa one year for her new baby cousin who had just been born. naturally the new baby got a new one and unknown to daughter her's went in the bin.

My favourite toys were my twin dolls pram and dolls in matching outfits that I got from santa one year, and my nurses outfit, I loved dressing up.

Time for bed ,
night nightxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Good morning all.Jane I didn't see the ET, but what a lovely story , I would have been in tears reading it!WE do like a spot of DIY, when needs must , Joshuas bedroom is a bit on the small side , so we need to make better room of the space , which means moving the door .
Fiona, at least you & Sophia had fun , Tha'ts what really matters !
David good luck with selling your house , Have you any idea what the house up the road looks like internally ,sometimes it's good to know what you are up against !
Frank , I don't like Holby either , it just winds me up , the same with Eastenders Can't stand it .
Black Jack's , Cola cubes , I know they can still be bought today , but we used to buy them by the 1/4 .
Do you remember Hartley Hare , & octavia the emu? for the life of me i can't remember what programme it was?
Well I have another busy day again . so I'll be back later .

Morning All,

Dull today but dry at the moment.

I never had a dummy or sucked my thumb. My boy did'nt have a dummy either and he did'nt suck his thumb. He never had a comfort blanket.

I had an imaginary friend called Pong and he was a dog. It may have been because when I was a baby we had an Alsatian called Tony. Mum would lay me in his front paws up the garden on the lawn and I would sleep the whole afternoon and when I woke Tony would bark to let mum know I was awake. Mum lent him to someone who had a pub as they had had two burgalaries in a week. One day when they went to see him they people had done a runner and taken Tony with them. We never saw him again.

I had lead farm animals, horses and cows and sheep. We would go to grans on a Saturday afternoon and they would take me to Dolly Wingers toy shop in South Woodford and I would get something for the farm. I think somewhere I may still have a little black cat that has a basket to sleep in and she had lkittle tiny kittens.

Morning Everyone
Well it started off a beautiful frosty morning ,but now it is getting all foggy!I thought next door was having another bonfire lol

Fiona I wonder if we call them Dummies because babies become dumb when sucking them.

I have never heard of Hartley Hare or Octavia the Emu Mags. How long ago would that have been?

My imaginary friend was called Jesus lol

I need to go and put a warmer top on I think. So I will pop the kettle on while I do that.

Heavens Jane, you can't admit to having a Golly, you'll get locked up!!!! I can remember having a Fort with lead soldiers, it belonged to my younger uncle who was 14 years older than me. The Fort was brilliant with battlements and soldiers at all angles, plus ones on horses, sadly the legs used to break so they were three legged or even two!!! I had a Milk Float, again a hand-me-down (most things were) which I used a Dolls Pram for my one and only Teddy, and rag doll made by my Granny.(she was very clever at making 'felt hats out of bedroom slippers'!! I really loved that 'pram', It doubled up as a dolls bed (before the shoebox ones) and all the blankets etc were made from old bits and bobs. As you say, Frank, if only we'd known then what we know now, we'd all be quids in!!! Enjoyed yesterday evening, it was lovely to go out and the very mild curry was lovely, Ian stood up to it all very well, we came home early though as he is flaking after about 9.30. This morning not too bad at all, infection seems under control, so feel much happier.

11.01am

Damp foggy morning out there.

Waiting for nurse to come, then we will pop to town to get a few bits, She forgot the MILK yesterday. That's the one thing we really needed.!!!

Both mine had dummies. It started when the doctor told us my daughter had a leaking valve in her heart. and not to let her ry too much. and to give her plenty of fresh air. She was born in late January, and would be wrapped up, put in her pram, outside the front door, every morning

, Lewis had more dummies than "BOOTS" as least 10 in our house and more in his mum and dads.Little B##### would not put them down. He always had three or four in his hand, and would swap them around !!!

Suns, out now.

Jane Report 16 Feb 2011 11:35

Oh Heck Liz.I thought it was alright to say that but not the three letter word that went with it.If you get me lol. There is one on a little child's grave in the Church yard.I spotted it this morning.

Frank I think it so funny when you see a child with several dummies. Some are so big these days they nearly cover baby's face lol

It looks like the fog is clearing and I do believe the sun is trying to come out.
Have just done some hoovering and poor Chester has now crashed out.He gets himself in a right old state when the hoover is on.He just needs to hear the word Hoover and that sets him off.It does my head in.
quick cup of coffee and then I'll nip out for the paper.
Frank you could have some of our milk.I think there are 6 pints in the fridge !!

Sun out here too now Frank.

It's ok to say Golly , not the other bit !! i seem to remember there was a bit of a two and eight over the Queens shop at Sandringham selling golly's .

Had DIL on the phone this morning , because Jake has fashion week at his school, and he has to dress 70's or 80's style, what the devil do you dress a little one in , he's got to wear it on Friday !! so not long to sort some thing out .
The teachers have these ideas but they don't think that mums have to sort it out and spend money finding something for them to wear .

Toby's ok with the hoover ....its the word postman that sets him off !!

Morning All,

A bit chilly but dry here.

I loved acid drops and pear drops although they skinned the roof of your mouth.
I also collected farm animals like you Mel, used to get something each week and spent ages making my mind up what i should get. I remember a mother duck with ducklings following her. I had lots of horses needless to say, some had cowboys you sat on with a peg on that fitted in a hole on the horses back.

Liz good that yu had a nice evening last night. How's the other problem with Ian now?

David

David Report 16 Feb 2011 15:52

Fiona, it's called a dummy because it's an artificial tit and that's what keeps the child quiet.

Don't put sugar or jam on them or the childs milk teeth will decay.

The word 'dummy' was originally used to refer to a 'mute' person...... Babies dummy achieves same purpose :)

Like you Liz, All my toys were 2nd hand. I remember at 11 years old. My eldest brother 21 years older than me. left an old BSA ait riffle in the house.when he went in the navy during the war and left it there. I found it and got a friend to give me loads of things for it. My dad found out and gave me a right hidding. Belt with the buckle end !!!!

Mandy, I would have thought that jeans, with big turnups. large floppy jumper and trainers would be allright. If you were talking 50s then I could help !!!

Mel, Can't say I knew the toy shop, possible after my youth. being that much older than you !!!
