for youYes it was Maureen, lots of old film and it was really interesting to see people being interviewed now, and compare how they looked on film 30/40 years ago!!! I'm not sure that I'd be up for that comparison!!!! Lots of film with Sid James and John Le Messurier (spelling!) who was a very close friend; sadly Drink, depression, broken marriage career going down the pan, and all the other horrors that seem to haunt comedians in particular, certainly became a real problem and eventually caused the poor man to comit suicide. Have just had supper, Pork delicious, though I say it myself!! Now to clear up (Boo) and feed Merlin, then settle down for the evening. Hope you're feeling better Frank and that things sort out for you.

Maureen

Maureen Report 20 Feb 2011 18:27

Evening All,

So glad things seemed to have calmed down Frank and hope things are sorted now. Lewis wouldn't want to see his pappy upset!!

Mel, we are going to watch it, OH had recorded it in case we forgot......looks good.

Visited the in laws this afternoon. OMG FIL has been riding around with lights on full beam!! There is no handbook with the car (I am going to try and get one) and OH had a job to convince him that the blue headlight symbol meant full beam. OH has now shown him how the lights operate. It is a good job he doesn't drive in the complete dark, would have dazzled everybody coming the other way. While they were looking at the lights MIL started whispering to me how forgetful FIL is becoming and that if she asks him to do something in a few hours time, he forgets and it is very frustrating but losing her patience doesn't help. OMG, well he is 90 now, so when does she think he will become old enough to get forgetful!!!!!!! lol, lol Trouble is she does absolutely everything for him so he doesn't get any practice at remembering much and knows she will remind him anyway. lol I just told her that her son had sent me a text yesterday only to the home phone instead of my mobile, that this morning he had left both his dressing gown and tablets out, something he never does........we all have bad days with things don't we.

Annx Report 20 Feb 2011 18:44

Yes, those boxes of chocs often had lovely thatched cottages didn't they. Also, some had a ribbon in a bow across the corner. We even describe some cottages as a 'chocolate box cottage'. Children will wonder what we are talking about when we say that now.

We are just old fashioned Ann lol
I remember when Hannah was young and she asked me if I knew Queen Victoria !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.........I don't think so! lol

Jane, you are not old fashioned. JUST OLD !!!! As a young man (I was once) to be able to afford one of those box's of chocs was a wonderful experience. Only once or twice a year. I think you paid more for the box than the chocs but didn't you girls loved the effort, we boys put into it. I think they called it LOVE.!!!!

Ann, I can just imagine your FIL with the lights. Poor beggers coming towards him.!!!

Harvey and Julia still here. We had a lovely dinner, and for afters we had apple strudel, anf apple and blackberry crumble. own picked blackberries

The tension is a lot easier this evening. Having Lewis here is bound to help. I wont let the events affect his stay.(PROMISE) I wouldn't forgive myself if he felt the tension between us.

I bet Lewis is looking forward to bacon butties Frank and all the other lovely food you get for him. Blackberry and apple crumble with loads of custard.......yum, yum!!

OH is off to ANOTHER match at Droilsden sp? tomorrow. He has a car load of passengers to pick up so will be gone early and back late. I hope the weather is better up north tomorrow for him than it was yesterday. He said they could only use 2 lanes of the motorway because of snow!! I think more snow is due tomorrow as well.

I wonder if Mandy is feeling a bit better today.

Hi Susan .I remember when I worked in Greece (when I was a young gal ) lol.I would have to go to the main post office in Athens to call home ,but I had to book a time to make the call .
Also crossed lines.Listening to someone else's conversation on the line, and holding your breath so they couldn't hear you.(maybe that was just me lol)

And Frank! me old???? I thought you were my friend lolol

Harvey and Julia have gone home now. As I mentioned they own a 6 berth Caravan holiday home in south of France. They are not letting it out this year. I offered to be a warden for a couple of months.!!!! which they said I could. I am thinking of going late march till late May. I have just checked with RYA# Air and I can get a return from Luton on those dates for £10.00 out and £12.99 back. Would only take hand luggage so no baggage cost. I can wash my bits and pieces through, there is also a laundry. on site, shop, club, restaurant and the main shopping in only 5 minutes away. So I think I may go for it. It might let things cool down. and a break will do me good.

Morning All,

Dull here but not so cold as yesterday.

Frank what a lovely offer of a holiday, France eh! you devil go for it.

Watched South Riding and quite enjoyed it except for the bit where they had to shoot the horse on the hunt. It is nice to see something old fashioned again, and a different time of the 1930's. Them talking about the war being over. Little do they know it would be happening again in 5 years time.

Hope all our sick are feeling a bit better this morning. Love and wishes to Ian, Ros and Mandy.

Mags will probably have all th echildren home for the holiday so we won't see much of her.

Morning Mel and all

Frank, I say if you think a break from each other will do you both good,go for it.Sometimes a bit of breathing space is needed.
Will you manage ok on your own?I wish I had a relative with somewhere in France.I would think the weather will be just right for you then. Not too hot.

I have been watching 3 Red Kites circling around some of our back gardens.I never get fed up seeing them.

It is yet another grey and misty kind of morning, and I think they said rain later for us here.

I hope all our patients are improving day by day
