I have pm'd Tracey as suggested.

On the disc problem I still get the message and our computer guy has no idea why.

Thought you'd like to know that my IT guru updated my system just recently. He did not change my disk drive but almost all of the other components have been renewed.

The messages I was receiving in Word and Excel have now disappeared. I dunno. Maybe when you renew your components it takes them a while to sort that out. Anyway I no longer have to click on remind me later.

Has anyone messaged Tracey about the name and phone number. No argument that it needs to be removed.

I realise the reason and agree with it, but people are suspende for stupid things these days so hope you are right.

JaneyCanuck Report 9 Jun 2010 17:40

For pity's sake. Nobody gets suspended for this. Really. Nobody. On TTF, people report this sort of thing all the time, whether or not a poster has been asked to delete their info.

This really does have nothing to do with Tracey or anyone else who posts third-party personal info. It has to do with protecting the personal information of a third party.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Jun 2010 17:29

How about sending Tracy a PM, maybe she has not revisited this thread but has her e mail on. It would be a shame Janey if you have got her suspended for trying to help somebody.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 9 Jun 2010 17:26

It's nothing to do with Tracey, really. It's some third party's personal info sitting on the internet. There's no malice in reporting privacy violations like that. It's purely in the interests of the people whose privacy is invaded.

And I'm sorry, but how anyone in the year 2010 could not realize it is not a good idea to post their own name and telephone number on the internet, let alone someone else's ... the mind boggles. Nonetheless, I don't think anyone reports such violations to cause anyone else trouble, and I know I didn't. The purpose is to prevent trouble for the person whose personal info is on display.

Janey

Give Tracey a chance, she was just trying to help and perhaps didn't realise that it was not a good idea to post this type of information on here. I only just read her post at about 16.38 and replied to her immediately.

You have given her only 13 minutes to read my suggestion and for her to remove the name and number. Possibly she is at work and hasn't even seen it yet.

It's a stunningly horrific idea to post someone's name and telephone number on this site, or anywhere on the internet. Since it has been here for quite some time now and the suggestion to delete it has not been followed, I've reported it -- sorry, but one just does not post other people's names and telephone numbers on the internet.

Hi Tracey

Thank you for your post but I am in Tenerife. I have made a note of the number in case you want to delete it from the thread. I'm not sure that it is a good idea to leave it on this site.

As far as I know it is still going I only look when I need to in case it has a limited amount of use left. It takes ages to open XL for example, but it works okay after opening.

I have ordered a new updated disc but I do like the 2003 edition

I had the same problem at work, the "Not Genuine" message came up even though it was.

That was fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling from a disc.

I don't know why that should not work in your case so long as the disc and key match.

Tenerife Sun Report 4 Jun 2010 22:53

Well that was the first time I had tried using restore but I was unsuccessful.
First attempt was for 17th April as I can't remember when all this first started the message said 'Can't restore your computer to 17/04/210. Nothing on your computer has been changed.

I then decided that the count down message was for about 30 days so tried to restore to 02/05/10 but got the same message. Using a date after that would be too late.

I never thought of that I don't know if the computer guy did.

I'm not too technically minded but I will have a look.

David

David Report 4 Jun 2010 22:26

Could you go to system restore and back it up to a date PRIOR to when this problem began ??

Would that solve it Wendy ?

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 4 Jun 2010 22:22

Hi David

I wish he had run the disk without asking me, or better still not at all.

He did ask me so I had the option to say no. therefore I don't like to make a big thing of it. The computer guy has been looking after our 2 computers and 1 laptop for a few years and charges us an acceptable fee.

I can't wait for midnight when tomorrow will be here to see what happens

I feel like Cinderella!!

Hi Aunty Sherlock

You have given me hope. I have been clicking the 'Remind Me Later' button for ages but as I only have 1 day left, today, I don't know if it will work anymore or that the message will even appear.

David Report 4 Jun 2010 22:15

Get the computer guy who had you download his disk to rectify the problem which was caused by his disk, or to compensate you.

You will get Office2003 cheaper off ebay than off Microsoft if you have to resort to that.
