Wouldn't (thankfully) be allowed now!!

why not? it was entertainment........(apart from peoples' modern attitude)....
they were SINGERS, albeit in costume........

not MUCH different to Little Britain! ie in Drag!
some sketches of which,

which to me,........IS offensive

in my humble opinion of course...

My (much older) brother appeared on 'Have a Go' with Wilfred Pickles - he won 2/6!!
I'm far too young to remember the show, though.

Honest!!!! - bro's 7 years older than me!!!

edit - just looked up the show - it was broadcast from 1946 - 1967!
Still don't remember listening to it - but I think my brother was on in the 1950's - he was about 6.

her is someone else who remembers Dick Barton Special Agent.
My father insisted that we all sat at the table and listened to the Archers in silence whilst we ate our evening meal.
Childrens Hour was another favourite, and Lost in Space

If you think back to children's hour then and listening to all the stories, Just William, Ballet Shoes, Jennings, Anne of Green Gables and others, didn't it in a way seem more real to you than now when you watch these things on TV. The story was individual to you because what happened was in your imagination.

I´ve always said that the Spanish live in the past, but the local hotel has just been playing The Singing Nun, singing Dominique.
I know that was a bit more recent than the ones you are discussing, but it must be 50 years old surely.
Where on earth did they find it?

Listen with Mother, was on steam radio at 1.45 singing and short story introduced by Daphne Oxenford I think - must google - followed from 2 - 3 pm by Woman's Hour.

Do you also remember Children's Hour 5 - 5.55 weekday afternoons, Toytown, Nursery Sing-song with Auntie Vi (Carson), weekly story slots of Jennings at School, Eagle of the Ninth, etc and I think every Tuesday was a Nature programme about flowers and fauna.

and the 50s music wow.
Got myself a cryin', talkin', sleepin', walkin', livin' doll.
Gotta do my best to please her, just cos she's a livin' doll.
Got a rovin' eye and that is why she satisfies my soul.
Got the one and only walkin', talkin', livin' doll.
Take a look at her hair, it's real,
And if you don't believe what I say, just feel.
I'm gonna lock her up in a trunk, so no big hunk,
Can steal her away from me.

I got no bags and baggage to slow me down
Well, I'm traveling so fast my feet ain't touching the ground
