Hi

What a shambols, even worse than before. I was moved to moan at GR over the latest changes to managing Hot Matches. I had pages of useless matches and every time I discarded a match I was returned to page one, life's just too short. Hot Match admin has always been a chore but this is nonesense, who trials these changes? it would not be difficult to have a simple efficient method of viewing and managing matches en-block. Unbelievable.

I have to agree with this comment.
It would appear that thinigs like this are thought of and not fully trialled properly.
I find it hard to believe that the powers that be think that this is a change for the better.
Please can we go back to how it was (when it worked properley and was easy to use!!)

Hi Howard,

I would just like to assure you that we are aware of this bug and in the process of fixing it. Apologies for the inconvenience, it must be very frustrating and we will have this fixed asap.

While they are at it, I wonder if they will sort out all the other 'bugs'.
Won't hold my breath

I believe that when the computer comes up with the hot matches it looks at 2 details, 1. the name and 2 the year of Birth. Ibelieve that it should add another match, The place of Birth. This would reduce a lot of my useless matches.

Yes Rex, I agree. Since when has Whittlesey Cambs. been in Western Australia. I despair sometimes. Only match I have every had is with a distant rellie, whose information is what I gave him to get him started.

Hi Genes

I didn't realise it was a bug but why can't we have a simpler way of sifting and deleting, the earlier methods were more efficient than the current, surely you can produce a list that indicates a birth place and the number of matches on the tree, with a discard button beside each match, then we wouldn't have to keep tooing and frowing. The info fields are already there so pulling them together should be simplicity itself.

I agree about the other bugs, even typing these messages lags and the cursor gets lost, thats why I don't bother using it as a rule.

Moan over. Regards to all

Huia Report 19 Jul 2010 22:10

I have just received notification of my Hot Matches. When I came onto GR there was no hot match beside the words. I looked through all the pages and not a single hot match to indicate the new ones. One of the examples in their email gave 3 names that allegedly were hot matches with mine but I have never heard of those 3 names.

Most disappointing and frustrating.

Huia.

Anthony Report 20 Jul 2010 09:44

I too am very disappointed with what has been done to hot matches, and had posted my own thread last month.
I see that this months Hot Matches are no better. All my previous contacts have now gone, and all I am offered are of one family name only. So it is of no use to me now at all, pity. Having contacted Genes last month, I am still awaiting even an acknowledgement, I wont hold my breath on getting it resolved.

Hi All

I received, what I imagine is a standard response to my emailed moan, which went on about them doing their best but they can't suit everyone. If they suited somebody it would be a step in the right direction.

I agree that GR don't seem to have any method for assessing the impact of changes on customers. As the genealogy market becomes more competitive, the GR team seem to be losing the plot.

Janet, you say ..." I have noticed that for some time in addition to new hot matches I have other names whom I have never contacted and they are not in my contacts list. They are just there as they supposedly match names in my tree."

I can't see a problem with that. Isn't it what HotMatches are supposed to do?

Sadly the 'old' way wasn't any better either.

My main gripe with the current version is that after making a deletion, or sending a message to someone, you should return to the same point in the Hotmatch list where you came from, not back to the beginning. If they were to fix this then it would work ok as far as I am concerned.

As far as not matching place names is concerned, the reasons for not doing so have been debated regularly on here so I won't repeat them again.. It is not going to happen, at least not in the foreseeable.

Does GR have a department for making things harder for their customers than they already are?

The old method of deleting 'dud' hot matches was ok. This new system takes twice as long. Why can't I just tick all the relevant boxes and delete the whole lot in one go (as I used to) instead of doing it one by one.

Does anyone there actually use their limited brain power to think these changes through before they impose them on the long-suffering customers?

This is a disgrace.

I've never seen GR reply before either, except to a PM.

I gave up with Hot Matches a long time ago for all the reasons mentioned by the rest of you. I never look at them now.

They might not be able to match place names but matching continents surely can't be that difficult!!

I agree with Inspector GP that is what I want them to fix too. And I have emailed them about it. But they say changes are at the requests of members?? So WHO requested that one?

And I liked hot matches and have found some good contacts in the past.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 3 Aug 2010 15:08

I think this is a fault, bug or call it what you will, rather than a deliberate change at the request of members. If you look at FAQ's in Help it says:-

"We are aware that when you delete or discard a hot match you are returned to the first page of the hot matches. This is something our technical team are working on and hope to have corrected very soon. Sorry for the inconvenience!"

Joy Report 3 Aug 2010 15:42

And that just proves that some staff know what is happening ... and maybe others haven't told others ....
- because one member of staff replied that members had requested it .... doh!!
