So i understand that we search parish records to discover births etc but can we get copies of anything as facts like the certificates? Or is it just what you read and copy down/ Thanks

There are no actual certificates for births, marriages and deaths pre 1837. Civil registration started in 1837 - this is a useful site to read: http://www.thosedixons.net/certificates/births.html

Prior to 1837, we search for baptisms, marriages and burial records.

Parish records can be found in the Mormons' site, on CDs published by family history societies, in the free site http://freereg.rootsweb.com/index.htm (transcribed by volunteers); also, some have been put on the internet and can be found by searching.
And they can be searched at records offices.

Tracy,

There are some Parish Records available online, depends what districts you are searching. There is also the local record office for that district as well..............where you can get copies of Baptisms, marriages and burials pre 1837 (church records)
