Shirley is right,in my book of names it states that Polly and variants Pil,Poli,Poll,Polley,Polli,Pollie and Pollyanna,is a variant of Molly or a diminutive of Paula.

its the english variation of MOLLY
but could also have just been used as a nickname with no connection to registered name

can anyne help me. My paternal grandfather was born in B'ham workhouse in 1880. His mother Elizabeth Brooks is listed also in 1881 census. I know he had a older sister called Polly. No trace under that name could anyone suggest what her name would be to be called Polly by her family?
