in a partner or friend?

Honesty and loyalty... don't have those?, don't have me as a friend.

Is a partner included in your answer Rose? If so, for arguments sake ( debate), would you say that if said partner/friend had the attributes you wish for, is nothing else important?...Is that all they need?

( absolutely and utterly no connotations in my question whatsoever. Just thought I would throw a question for you all to ponder :-) ) There may be more thought needed than one at first thought/thinks.

lol Susan it was a quick answer in passing ;) but applied to 'friend' since I dont have a partner.

will come back to it after I hoover... but important qualities for a friend and for a partner would be different ...because I would have to live with the latter lol.

Taking your answer as true, now imagine just the attributes of being bonkers......then answer...Is this enough? make a list of missing attributes, could you live without them?

well I was coming back lol, but a nice couple rang the doorbell and we had 'debate' on interpretation of the bible... :)

What is important to me in a friend....if close or likely to get close lol ... an understanding of my sense of humour lol, honesty, a similar level of compassion, reasonable intelligence, open-minded ( but not woolly minded ;)) and that other word....loyalty that I mentioned below...not 'blind loyalty', if i did something wrong I would want them to feel they could tell me and disagree with my action....but loyalty in the sense they would NEVER consider going behind my back and doing something they knew would hurt me terribly.

Friend...Loyalty compassion understanding and a bond that can never be broken no matter what.....

Why, I've just been engaged in a lively discussion of this at eharmony!

Shared -- to the point of identical -- core values and beliefs. That's essential. No right-wingers or loonytarians, no religionists. Other things flow from the core values and beliefs that are crucial, one being an absolute commitment to women's equality, and of course the equality of all human beings.

I need to be able to trust in my partner's basic goodness, and to trust his judgment almost as much as I trust my own, at least. ;) The right-wing and the religious don't meet those needs.

The complete package would call for high intelligence and extreme funniness. Some of that emotional openness would sure be nice, but I've concluded that that's pushing the envelope. ;)

I think it's the same moral values ... both for friends and partners. That's probably a base line.

Sense of humour then comes top of the list. I can safely say that my OH makes me laugh every day. (Sometimes it's unintentional - usually funnier when it's unintentional!)

Same/similar level of intelligence - which seems to match with the sense of humour ... or am I misreading that - but to me they are somehow linked.

Other thinks matter but not so much. Things like what sort of temper someone had would matter, and whether they loved dogs ... but they definitely are someway down the list.

(I prefer dog lovers as they don't moan about dog hairs and muddy pawprints ...)

In a friend discretion, honesty and loyalty, The ability to share different views without disharmony and a similar sense of humour.

In a partner the ability to be my friend and take it one step further. To be forgiving and caring without prejudicing their own beliefs (in other words loving but not a doormat) ,

It is hard to have friends who may love you but don't welcome your pets. or don't visit you because it's moulting time or wet paw season time.
Now I appreciate the mutts aren't welcome into the homes of non-dog owners and I wouldn't fall out with anyone over that. but there are a few people who back away from you when you have 2 dogs wanting to say hello lol ..

It has taken me a while to think about this answer and I am still unsure and yet when I read the "What is important to you" banner I thought that I would be able to reply immediately.

Trustworthy springs to mind, loyalty, kindeness. fun, ability to say the word sorry and to accept that same word when it is proffered.
To know how to forgive whilst still being angry if let down,

To undertsand my strange sense of humour and to have the ability to see that I am not as hard as sometimes I appear.

Right now....we have all said what we 'want' from a partner/friend....but what are you prepared to give of yourself......not half of what you expect...I'll bet lol.....or do you give what you expect?
