Tenerife Sun Report 30 Jul 2010 09:50

Yesterday evening I put a thread on here entitled Guinness the Black Labrador. The thread gave a link to a site that told of his pitifully sad life and the link suggested that if anyone wanted to help towards his operation they could. I did not ask for money for him just directed people to the link.

This morning the thread has been pulled and bearing the short space of time it had been up I doubt very much that GR saw it and pulled it themselves.

I would assume that the person who reported this harmless but caring thread has never owned a dog and probably doesn't even like them much

I am going to contact GR with a copy of what the thread contained, ask them to look at the site and if they see fit to allow me to put the thread up again.

I read the thread Wendy, in between power cuts, and saved the link to my favourites for when I have some spare.

If someone DID report that they should at least have the guts to say so and why ,it hurt no one, anymore than some of my threads mentioning Help For Heroes ,were in any way a 'demand' that people contribute.

When I joined GR there was a regular Friday night thread mentioning greyhound rescue...every week and it was never pulled.

I'm disgusted.

What type of pleasure would anyone get from reporting something as innocent as that?
I'm sorry about it Wendy.
Have we always had this kind of 'spite' (is the only word I can think of just now) on the boards, because I can't ever remember it.

Wendy - Good Morning - I saw your original thread about Guiness the Labrador. Unfortunatelly I did not get time to read it.
How sad these people are, that can take exception to the plight of a poor dog. How spiteful. My heart bleeds.
I hope you can put the thread back up again, and GR give you the reason it was pulled in the first place.
So sad, so sad.

Sorry about that wendy, I bet they will say it broke some term or condition, they seem to have them to allow them to cover all eventualities.

Unfortunately GR do say my Guinness the labrador thread was against T & C's.

All I can say is IF you should want to read his story it is on Facebook and can be easily Googled by putting in Guinness the black labrador.

Wendy, did they say which particular T & C was infringed?

This is the reply from GR cut and pasted

Dear Tenerife Sun

Thank you for your email.

Although we understand that your posting was done with the best of intentions, soliciting for money, whether for commercial gain or charitable giving, is not permitted on the Genes Reunited boards.

All postings of this nature are removed from the boards, we cannot make exceptions for any charity.

Best regards,

I assume that means GR will be dropping the ads for charities from their site then!

I think this decision by GR is very sad really, but some people will think otherwise

Somebody needs to give these idiots a dictionary.

"Soliciting" and "recommending a website" are not the same thing.

If I directed people here to
- a website where I sell my crafts for profit
- a website where I am raising money for my dog's operation

that would be soliciting.

If I directed people here to
- a website where people can buy crafts, that has nothing to do with me
- a website where money is being raised for a cause, that has nothing to do with me

that is not soliciting.

Am I not allowed to suggest that people go to
http://www.careinternational.org.uk/
and consider making a donation?

"we cannot make exceptions for any charity."

Well, Help for Heroes posts prove that one false.

Perhaps the dog site doesn't have official charitable status. Now in all seriousness, that could be a problem. GR would be acting responsibly if it didn't want its users being directed to possible scams.

That isn't the case though, I see.

"Please if you have a few pennies spare to help LRSE&C the lovely charity looking after me, please kindly donate through our Just Giving page"

http://www.loveyourlabrador.co.uk/

-- and I put that link here *for information purposes only* and not as a solicitation for anything --

"Labrador Rescue South East & Central"
"Patrons: The Lord Swinfen, Mrs Robin Wise, Allen Parton - Endal & EJ, Jimmy Hill and Bryony Hill
Registered Charity No 1059122"

Somebody reported, somebody had to earn their paycheque.

Would gr have noticed if it had not been reported?

It makes me sad that people might have reported such a thread, but there you are, it's happened with other threads I think and seems to be the luck of the draw whether a thread is seen favourably by others or not.
Personally I thought we were supposed to be a nation, and in the main a world, of animal lovers. Who would deny Guinness a chance of a good life?

Hope he gets his op and a great life ahead of him

After giving myself 24 hours to think over GR's reply to my e-mail re the pulled thread on Guinness I decided that I did not like the suggestion that I was soliciting.

I have now sent this second e-mail to Rachel.

Dear Rachel

I refer to my e-mail to you on Friday 30th August reference Guinness the Labrador.

In my tread, which was pulled, I explained the predicament of a young dog who has to date had a very sad life and I asked that anyone interested in reading his story should go to this link

http://www.justgiving.com/Wayne-Palmer

This was your reply

I would like to make it perfectly clear that I object to the term 'soliciting' as I at no time asked for money or contributions of any kind.

Also I would like to point out that GR does not practice what they preach as there was, and possibly still is, a thread on Help for Heroes.
Last year a member who made her own jewelery directed people to her web site!! Neither of which bothers me.

So please, I ask again for me to reinstate my thread for Guinness, this is a direction to a site where people have the choice as to whether or not they look at it and to whether or not they act on what they read there.

In view of some of the rubbish, bad language and personal attacks that appears on threads I feel the one on Guinness the Labrador was a breath of fresh air

May I ask if anyone from GR has actually looked at the link themselves.

Yours sincerely etc

There have been several threads asking for donations/sponsors on the boards.
Hope they let you reinstate your thread

Good luck with getting a positive reply Wendy but don't hold your breath. Unfortunately as somebody has said once they delete a thread they never reinstate. It does seem that there is one rule for one and another for others though.
