I live in Sutton on Sea, it is great for a five year old, we have a beautiful beach, you can hire a beach hut by going on the Lincolnshire county council web site, there is a free paddling pool for the kids lovely cafes, Corner Cafe is good, nice pub The baccus and NO arcades, for a day out it is wonderful for kids especially small ones, and it doesnt cost an arm and a leg!!!

I take my children to mablethorpe every year for there weekly holiday, they love it,
it is a old fashioned seaside town, great beach, donkey rides, The Sandtrain which runs up and down the beach, or there is a train ride that goes up and down the main road.
Fun Fair.
Great Ice Cream
The Seal Sanctuary is great.
There are some great cafes but can recommend The Beck for a great roast dinner.
We always stay on the haven camp so not sure where u could stay overnight unless u have a tent as they have a campsite where u could stay the night with electric hook up and good clean toilet facilities.
We live in Norfolk and always stop at skegness on the way home, i didnt like it when i went years ago, but it is really nice now, nice clean beach.
Good Value Ice Cream Parlour right near the seafront, and Ingoldmells market which is huge is only next door.

Dea, if you decide to come to Norfolk next year, let me know and I can send you a leaflet with money off vouchers as they always put them in the local paper several times in the year.

I can also recommend a very reasonably priced and comfy house to rent which I have stayed in many times - it's great for children with a safe garden and toys in the playhouse and all you need for a good holiday.

Have a lovely time whereever you end up with your granddaughter.

Liz, many thanks for your kind offer but I don't think we will get as far as Norfolk this time around but saomething to bear in mind for next year.

My husband and I spent a couple of weeks on a boat on the Norfolk Broads with friends and our 'little' son who was about 3 at the time, so more than 30 years ago now. - It was lovely!!!

We looked at the possibility of doing it again a few years ago but it was SO expensive to hire the boat we decided to go on a 'luxury' holiday to Mexico for about the same cost .

I would like to visit the area again but I won't be hiring a boat !

Bit of a long haul to Norfolk but we have a great Dinosaur Park and also Bewilderwood - both lovely places for younguns.

Google them and have a look and maybe find a cheap travelodge room for overnight stay, same in Mablethorpe area.

it will all seem so exciting to a 5 year old!

Dea, I like Skegness. There are pleanty of lovely walks nice beaches and a seal sanctuary. Plenty of car boots and I think you still can get a day pass into Butlins. There are quite a few shops and meals out are very reasonable. I am going in a caravan there on 28th August for a week with daughter grandaughter and great grandaughter plus grandson and 3 dogs. It is not like Blackpool or I don't thik so. Go and enjoy. Elaine.

Does anyone know of accomodation in Mablethorpe which is 'safe, clean, quiet, and suitable for us with a 5 year old. - Caravan, Chalet ???

Near to the beach and within reasonable distance from the seal sanctuary??

We took the boys to Mapplethorpe .... years ago.
It was such a wonderful holiday, and yes it has a beautiful beach.

My little boy was about 8 years old, the older one 16 and pretty much went his own way with some young ones he met.
Always came back for food though. ;-0)
I do not know what it is like now, after all these years, but we had a lovely time.
There was fun fair too.
The coast cannot have changed and your little one will have you, so I'm sure she will adore it.
All she needs is a bucket and spade, and a picnic.

Thank you for your suggestion George - It sounds good.

I think I will first try Mablethorpe but I am making a note of all suggestions as once we have been there for the day, we might try staying in the area for a few days next time as there seems to be so much to see and we could do a few of them next time.

There is a place near Skegness called Claythorpe Water Mill and Wildfowl Gardens, i have been there a few times with my grandchildren and they absoutely loved it
Not a beach place of course but a lovely spot, withh many many birds etc Swans Peacocks , Pheasants and loads more all walking about, You have to mind the POO though.Lovely cafe in the Old Mill

It is situated some 15 miles or so from Skegness near Alford off the A16 to Louth, obviously you need to be travelling by car.Easily spotted on the map

Even i enjoyed it and thats saying something

She knows ALL about dinosaurs (and I mean ALL !!) - She has done them at school and can name every one !! - Put's me to shame and she is only 5 !

Hi Dea,i live near Mablethorpe,good beach ,there is also a Seal sanctuary with lots of other animals too and its cheaper than the Skegness one.they have a cafe and seating area and shop.you can spend lots of time there for a few quid.its peaceful and set in wonderful grounds,they also have an undercover walk where you can listen to the history of lincolnshire,it was once like a desert and dinosaurs roamed,there are fossils and dinosuar bones displayed.the seals are good to watch up close too.

Mablethorpe is very nice too,but they can both be rather cool ,and windy,at times,Fred.

Just for the day Liz,

It is 'school holidays' and we are trying to sort out various places for 'day trips' to keep her amused.

I will google the other places you mentioned and see what they are like.
