I have found an ancestor of mine who's will went to probate in 1887, he left the sum of £3,291 and 18 shillings. Does anyone have any idea how much that would be worth in today's terms, it seems quite alot of money to me!!!!

The money probably went to the government!!! as I think the will went to probate because he made his will out to his wife who he then seperated from, had a secret love child (my 2nd great grandfather) with a woman half his age and then his wife died, and maybe he never changed his will and that's why it went to probate. I don't think he had contact with my 2nd great grandfather or he would of perhaps inherited the money. I did send for a copy of the will to the will service department but never heard back from them. Still I can dream of the inheritance that never was to be!!!!!
