i think the real amy is really a big softy
i mean she even consults her neighbors about cutting her bush

so they must be really good friends

I have the job of having a 'polite' word with my neighbours .There is heck of a lot of things I have to ask them to cut back.I'm dreading it really as they can be quite strange! But one of their hedges is so tall part of it has almost reached my bedroom window upstairs. The front wooden fence (theirs) is tipping gradually our way with the weight of all the bushes hedge ,weeds and blooming ivy.The fence is very old and we daren't pull off the Ivy our side as I think that is what is holding it up lol.But I noticed yesterday lots of Ivy from their property is growing up the side of our house.

Jane, you must pull that ivy off your wall, it will loosen all your pointing.

II will have to ask next door to go on their property to do that Foggy as the side of our house is so close to them.I think I will send my son round lol.Their ivy seems to be taking over.We pulled a lot off the garage the other day. It's a real pain.

Hi Jane,
I personally would just pull it off, and if your neighbour says anything, tell him you will give him the bill for the re-pointing to your property......
Just hack it back.

Yes, Foggy's right - you'll have to do that yourself, Jane. As for the rest, a sweet smile and a bit of charm with the neighbours is the only way. I know from experience, as I have a very bad tempered, elderly neighbour on one side. I found, to my cost, that, trying to be as pleasant as possible, but eventually losing my cool (after provocation) achieved very little. Good luck!

i had ivy growing up my house it was a nightmare to get rid of
and the airiel roots stick to the brick work
took us months to get it off

and worst of all great big spiders used to live in it
and come through the bathroom window

I spoke to my neighbour this morning when i had calmed down, and we are still on speaking terms lol.I asked her what had happened to my plant, and she said it was her boyfriend that done it while she was out.She was very apologetic and said he did not like the bees.He then came round to me,very very sorry and promised it would never happen again. He also offered to buy me a new one.He said it was like being back in his carpentry class at school. He said he would have a big block of wood to make a boat out of it and he ended up with a pencil lol.He said he just got carried away.I have forgave him. Glad you were able to speak to your neighbour about it Annie, without falling out. I would give your shrub a good feed with bonemeal now and hopefully it will revive and you'll be able to move it in October as you planned, fingers crossed. I'd like to know what it is.

Failing that, Annie, take some cuttings from it ......Now!!

you may realise the pleasure later on of being able to say........
I rescued that from a cutting,
and look at it now!!

We managed to get rid of some stubborn ivy by cutting through the main branch as low as possible, then waiting for the plant on the wall to die. It was much easier to remove it then - although it did look a bit of a mess for a while!
