Well first thing that sprang to mind Shelly was adding up in your head!

After I took early retirement ,from full time job,i found a few hours work in a local shop, There were five of us ladies aged over 50yrs. and of course there was a till, but all of us could add a good few items up in our heads, and reach the total quickly (and correctly) ..........we 'amazed' the 2 teenage Saturday girls....but made them laugh when we gave each other high fives lolol .......

Looks like Awdrey is the Grandma of GR followed closely by Elizabeth! `Any more for any more! I am far too young... *ahem...* to be in the running, being a mere stripling of 74 but I think we are all wonderful and I now cannot imagine life without my computer.

Mau - I think why you - we - can do these sums in our head is because we all used to have "mental arithmetic" in school- oral sums, and what's more none of them were decimal! not money, or weights and measures - I am safer doing sums than using a calculator!

Hello all my fellow Silver Surfers and Hello Mau on the coast still paddling along thankyou, it is good to read all the answers, I find it keeps my brain ticking over especially when having a good search for something, makes you think laterally as well as backwards,

Many Blessings.

Age is all in the mind. The secret is keeping it from going southwards.

Happy days

Life is like a hot bath - it feels good while you are in it, but the longer you stay, the more wrinkly you become.

Hello Mau at the coast,
All this time and you still havnt told me which coast ha ha.
Keeping you up to date, my mum is still with us and it is hard work. She knows she is older!!! but not that I am ha ha.
On the brighter side, My eldest (without telling me) nominated me for a "Local Hero" competion. When the local paper rang to tell me I had won I did not have a clue what the woman was talking about. So for doing things that come so natural to me ie caring for my family I was given a fantastic day.
I came home with a dress, jacket and shoes by David Emanuel, free hair does for 6 months vouchers for all sorts of shops including a cakr shop for a celetration cake. As it is my husbands 65th next month we will use it for that. i do love the conversations and help I have had from you all and thank you all so much.
Love to you all
Janet (In Paisley) but from near the coast ie Tynemouth xxx

Did any of you watch "The Young Ones" on TV tonight?
It made my day to see the state of some of them.I am not the oldest on here,I'm 75 but feel 25 most of the time.I'm fortunate that I'm still quite mobile and look after my 76 year old husband who is housebound and do lots of jobs that you expect a man to do.This afternoon I spent in the garden cutting a BIG bush down as our YOUNG gardener hasn't been for 4 weeks,...always an excuse.....Will probably pay for it later...but you have to think positive even though we have challenges in life.
It will be interesting to see the next episode of the TV programme as they have been taken back to the 70's.
I also wouldn't be without my computer. It can be a life saver for a lot of older people.
