That they dread appearing on a new branch of their tree?
Mines Mary/Mary Ann, i have 34 of them and thats not including the various "Marys" that have married into the family, its almost impossible to match them to the correct spouse,as for finding a death i've given up.......
The other one is William, i have 36 of them.
My worst nightmare is to have a Wiiliam marry a Mary Ann and then give their children the same names, lol

William, Thomas, Mary Ann, Emma, Sarah etc. etc. etc. Cousins with the same name and this darn habit they had of naming a child after another child who has passed away. That's caused me enormous confusion.

Cheers Amanda, thats another one off the christmas card list. lol.

Why did they name a child after a deceased sibling? (bit morbid for me) and yes, i have had that as well.

Think i'll open a rest home for confused geneologists, bookings taken in advance.................lol

Put my name down:-))

The best one is my William Williams whose son William Williams married Catherine Williams (different village so don't know if they're related). Catherine's parents are called Thomas Williams and Catherine Williams and they had a Thomas and William also. I gave up on them after awhile.

I was nearly called Susan after the pig my parents had when they first got married!
We had a puppy called Susan when I was small as the pig was long gone!

I have a string of Williams and James and one of those married a Mary Ann and another an Ann and they had children called Mary and Ann lol Luckily our surname is not over common so it helps a bit.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 10 Sep 2010 11:07

when they name two sons one after the other as James and both are still living makes it difficult. they must have run out of names by them one was James Herbert and the other James Joseph . can only presume on a day to day basis they were called by their second names.
When I first came across them on the 1881 census on family search site i thought it was an error .this was in my early days of research and i wasnt sure what i was doing!!!

Just found a Susannah, does that count Sue? and 28 Thomas's (all with the same surname)
2 sets of Evans, 2 sets of Pritchards, not related.
Unusual christian names-Shadrach, Meshach,( Brothers) and Maureen Bega, i'm told Bega is the name of an Irish nun.
The one thing that has helped is, when the mothers maiden name was used as a second name for the children.
that did make them much easier to find.

Georgygirl Report 10 Sep 2010 17:31

Hi Thorney,
We were taught the story of them at confirmation classes, they refused to worship a gold statue the king had built, king ordered them to be burned, but they walked out unscathed, the Lord was protecting them.
Cant believe i've remembered that story from all those years ago.......lol
