Well, this has been "One of these nights" ...

My friend of more-years-than-I-care-to-remember has recently moved back up to the north east after many years spent in the Wiltshire countryside.

So, we decided on a night at the theatre. Very cultured.

And then a quick drink in a nearby pub.

Which led to another quick drink in another nearby pub

Which led to a pub crawl around South Shields. Culminating in an hour in a karaoke bar.

That'd be me, then - hair plastered to the head.... it was hoying it down - giving it a bit of what for to Welcome to the Hotel California. Not a pretty sight, I'm sure!

In my mind we were wearing our Afghan coats again. Ah, the sweet scent of patchouli oil....

(and we're doing it all again tomorrow night - minus the theatre)

I wish I'd had a purple umbrella - or even and a 50 cent hat!

Sue xx

Hi Mau

In the cold light of morning, after the paracetemol and more tea than I usually drink in a year, the "great idea" of last night of "doing it all again tomorrow" was abandoned in favour "maybe doing it again before Christmas"

I reckon the body's telling me that I've long since given up "life in the fast lane" in favour of a more sedate 40mph on a B road.

It would take me a week to get over a night like that let alone even think about doing it again:-)) I'm glad you had a good night out with your friend.

Hello Sue ............it sounds as if you had a great night out ....lol

You must be very pleased that your friend has moved back into your region .

I don't envy you the hangover .....lol.......I had a horrid one a week or so ago but my own greedy fault , mixing Rum with larger seemed like such a bright idea when the fizz had run out ...... I won't be doing that again any time soon !

'twas truly a good night, Amanda.

One of those times you do spontaneously, but could never recreate with a year of planning.

I dread to think what a sight I must have been, soaked to the skin, hair looking decidedly not Trevor Sorbie...

... but with the excitement of alcohol, memory and good music (a potent mix) in the eyes, and the sheer buzz of having a bloody good time with an old friend who'd been around when we were really young and daft!

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is decidedly knackered!

Btw - rum and lager don't mix, hun!

Spontaneous nights are always the best ( and traditionally the most damaging when it comes to being hungover I believe ) ........treasure the memory , even if it is a bit fuzzy ......lol

"The spirit's willing but the flesh is weak"...........when I was young I used to wonder what that saying meant........now I know :O(

I have a friend of over 50 years and last week she was saying she thought she knew her children as one of them had admitted smoking behind the bike shed at school. She laughed and said but then her children did not know her BUT I reminded her I did!!!!!!!!!

I used to drink cider with a shot of Pernod in it ...... cor , those where the days .....hangovers where like water of a ducks back .....lol....... I don't think I could even sniff a glass of that now without feeling immediately very ill ......lol

OMG don't mix them Sue ! ( Cider I can still drink like pop !! )

You'll need another dose of paracetamol in the morning.lol

Edit ..Amanda I could never ever drink pernod, even the smell turns my stomach; couldn't eat aniseed sweets as a child either .lol

suzian Report 11 Sep 2010 23:39

Likewise, Mau.

Shame that, now I've got the idea, I'm too knackered to put it into practice

Amanda2003 Report 11 Sep 2010 23:44

SparklingSandie ....... that is the nature of Pernod I believe , I liked aniseed sweets as a kiddie ....lol...... but having made myself well and truly ill on Pernod , I couldn't drink it again now ........shudders at the thought !

suzian

suzian Report 11 Sep 2010 23:49

My memories of the dreaded Pernod relate back to the early 1970's - I won the goalsbuster at work. All of £5.

Which took Anne and me out into Newcastle and then onto a nightclub. Where Pernod and Black was the order of the day....

Me - on my knees in the ladies (not a pretty sight) . "I'm vomiting blood"

Anne (having performed a "scientific test" which I won't go into) - nah. it's just blackcurrant

To this day, the smell of Pernod knocks me sick

Amanda2003 Report 11 Sep 2010 23:57

LOL....Sue , you've certainly " painted a picture " there .

I never really went in for Pernod and blackcurrant . Pernod snowballs yes , Pernod and cider yes ........but not Pernod and black .

I'm off to bed now , with a nice cup of civilised tea : ))

Another one here who doesn't like Penod. Many years ago when on holiday abroad, we sat in a beach bar drinking the stuff, had a happy time but alcohol and sun don't mix either.............ooh ouch next morning it was definitely an inside day!!
