It's tragic, isn't it Chris.
Politicians in their ivory towers spouting off as though they know what they're talking about. Closing Haslar (dedicated to injured service men) to - apparently - save money.
If they caught all the tax evaders they could run a vast amount of the NHS on what they'd gain.

Maggie - they treated them so after WW1 - nearly a hundred years on nothing has changed.

That was heart wrenching.

On the back of Alan's ancestor, and his life, it makes a mockery of the government's plans to make those who make a life on benefits start work!
How many are Falklands Veterans? Will their 'reasons' for being unable to work be taken into account?
How many homeless people are ex- services?
This country's governments - nomatter what 'side' they're from - still haven't leaned anything about humanity have they?

£4 was a lot of money then - I was earning Two guineas as a jjunior shorthand typist and was well paid. Others earned £1.10s.

Better translate £2.10p. and £1.50p.

I think it helped because he is such a winning personality, and nothing seemed foced...well I have always admired him. BC XX

Don't worry, if you haven't watched it, none of this conversation would make any sense whatsoever.

Yes it was only one relative, but what a story...it needed that hour to tell it with the maximum impact emotionally. I thought it was one of the best episodes I've watched.

That was a very emotional hour!! Really enjoyed it, even though it concentrated on just one relative.

Great minds BC....

That was soooo sad. That poor woman, and to think she kept so much of that a secret it seems.

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 13 Sep 2010 22:23

That was very emotional, but the bit that got me was right at the end, over the £4 shipment fee....

Forgot about the other thread so have just posted there as well!!

Well I think so far that has to be one of the most interesting without really travelling too far back in time.

It got me at the part where he was talking to the ex Cameroon....sobs!

I was totally absorbed in it TW! Did you notice (this wont give much away) that at the end of his stay in Kuala Lumpar he had exchanged his awful black shoes and socks for a lovely red pair? lol Shallow? Moi? BC XX

That made me cry. What a tragic end to such a heroic life, but on the brighter side, what an honour for him to be remembered and loved in the village.

(that doesn't give too much away for those who missed it does it? )
