Just cut up 5lb of green tomatoes so I thought I would just put this up again in case anybody else wants to make it.

I can't believe how kind I was to Fred. He was allowed to do them in the food processor but I have just cut all mine up by hand.

I only said I wish I had seen this earlier as I have just turned all my green tomatoes into chutney. I like the sound of it as ordinary mincemeat is a bit too sweet for my taste. Never mind I'll keep the recipe for next year. Thanks Sharron :-D

Ever tried an oil instead of butter? (I'm asking, not suggesting!) sounds like a recipe my vegan daughter would like

The recipe says margarine and the fat plays such a minimal role in the recipe that I would think there would be no problem substituting something like Flora or even leaving the fat out completely.

I just use butter because that is what I have apart from the rough old stuff I use for pastry.
