Last October, the Autism Bill was passed in Parliament. This was an historical move as it is the first disability specific Bill ever passed.

Ahhh.......but then comes the Adult Autism Strategy, aimed at implementing said Bill.

Now is the time for councils to be reviewing how they intend to implement this Strategy - and that's another story!

Sadly, most local councils do not know how many people in their area are on the Autistic Spectrum so the more they know about, the better the outcome.

What that's really saying is that I'm really a boy. ;)

(I'm very easily and unhappily distracted by noise, as one example of the kind of answer in issue, but most of my characteristics like that are symptomatic of ptsd rather than autism spectrum, in my case -- shows how carefully things have to be interpreted. As my psychologist said, if he hadn't known me and had gone by the automated scoring of the MMPI alone, the diagnosis would have been paranoia, haha. It was the particular questions that had to be examined, to distinguish symptomatic fear/anxiety from delusional feeings of persecution. ;) )

My score was 14 - I'm a bit of a 'loner' - always have been, possibly the result of 6 of us living in a caravan when I was young!!!

That test was set up by Simon, the brother of Sacha Baron-Cohen, better known as Ali G/Borat!!

Have to admit that in Hampshire, we're 'on top' of the adult Autism/Aspergers situation.
The woman who is in charge of courses/implementation of the strategy has been voluntarily running a 'club' for Aspergers adults - finding them jobs, providing support etc for the past 13 years.
She has (amongst other adopted children) an adopted Aspergers son, now a teenager.

Amy, you may be right you know. Many of us have lived and dealt with autism for many, many years........and it IS dramatic at times. So what was your score?



Maggie - you are so very fortunate to have that support in your area. Most other areas are sadly lacking. It may be helpful for your 'lovely lady' to check the Strategy and make suggestions. I can pm further details if necessary.
