I have always lined my shelves, though I know some people dont, with the newer painted shelves, but even factory sprayed shelves get marked and you cant clean them properly.

It's a shame to dump crocks when charity shops could take them, or sometimes Scouts or similar want them for stalls at their fetes etc, smashing crocks is a great game lol

When you have your new cupboards fitted, fold clean newspaper or brown wrapping paper to the right size and shape and lay on the top of the wall units before you put anything on them, if necessary use double sided tape to keep it in place. Or you can use tinfoil or clingfilm but it's hard to work with. Whenever you want to clean up, just rip the old stuff off, give them a wipe and repaper and the tops will stay clean and greasefree and looking like new. I line inside the cupboards with washable wallpaper, which you can often find in Poundshops, again using double sided tape or those sticky pads from Poundshops, it stops your new shelves from getting marked and greasy too and so easy to clean out when springcleaning.

Have recently had a cupboard cleanout, and all the surplus went either on Freecycle or to the charity shop. Sadly, I had to let my old cooker go with the firm which brought my new one, and I just knew someone would ask for one on Freecycle the next few days, and they did.

I would love a new kitchen,but just the thought of all the upheaval puts me off lol.
When I had a new fridge freezer delivered and the old one carted off,I scrubbed the old one until it was sparkling lol.WHY??????.It was only going to be dumped.It is definitely a Lady thing.I too don't want to be thought of as a mucky pup(even though I am ) .Plus it is all the filth you find underneath and behind !!!!!!

Tricia
Tell your OH that he needs to make his mind up & get it ordered before Jan when the VAT goes up. Why pay more for the same kitchen.
We have been saying for ages we need a new kitchen, the old one was put in in 1989 and it looks very dated. The Vat going up decided it for us

Lyndi Report 4 Oct 2010 16:08

Tricia, hope you get your new kitchen soon. Choosing was not so bad for me - only me at home now.
I did dither for a while though, worried that I would make a mistake with my choice (I am one of those 'I used to be indecisive but now I just can't make up my mind' type.
In the end I just decided that whatever I chose it would look so much better than the tat, so went for it.
Am pleased with my choice now :-))

We had a new kitchen a few years ago now and had a good clear out of old and useless utensils etc. I didnt clean anything before it was taken out as it got covered with bits of plaster dust etc.
Put your feet up, there will be loads of cleaning to do after your new kitchen goes in with dust etc which gets everywhere.

Teresa:)

I did the same with the old cooker, I wouldn't want the neighbours thinking I was filthy , as they fitters carried it away !

made me giggle Lyndi. i found several opened packs of tinfoil and umpteen council recycling bags . wondered too why we need 6 jam tart baking tins when there's only two of us and only make mince pies at Christmas.
Think there is still some weeding out to do cos got lots of pyrex ware that just sits in the cupboard. Dont like throwing away good things is the problem although I did make my first Ebay sale two weeks ago and sold the slot in cooker. that got cleaned within an inch of life even though both ovens have stay clean linings. It was only 4 years old and my daughter said MUM dont you dare dump it !!

Merlin Report 4 Oct 2010 15:15

Yes Maggie, That's it!! The guy who is doing it lives in the village as well, so don't want him seeing my muck!!
I should have had more sense Shirley, but no......I have to leave it all till the last minute so haven't done the 'good sort out'. I will do that when I am putting it back - will have more space so don't want to do anything rash lol.
Need to do some stock control as well - I mean why would I need 11 packs of tin foil? That will change now I am not at work and have more time (and less money!!)
~~~~~ to Merlin..... :-P
We are having a new kitchen too !! did the clear out last week doing a couple of cupboards a day,I have a bad back so have to do a bit then sit down. Went to the tip 3 times with old crockery etc that was mismatched . the new cupboards arent going to be as big so need to be selective.
Some cupboards are OK as they had been "done" recently but some of them well i was amazed at the dust, I did feel i needed to clean them so the fitter didnt think i am a c..p housewife. OH said dont be stupid they are being dumped anyway.
The fitter came on Sat to take down the wall cupboards so the ceiling can be plastered tomorrow and I HAD to say something about the state of some of the cupboards. He said well you should see the state of some that I see, ground in dirt , food encrusted etc. made me feel a bit better about a bit of dust
Be glad when its over though.
Hi Patricia, well it is true LOL. But you know, they are a very kind hearted family. Everytime I go into hospital, which is very regular, 'the man of the house' asks the OH how I am. And, they never gossip about other neighbours, when they could spill the beans, and often, put me out of me misery. LOL So, I suppose that is one compensation.
Lyndi, just know where you are coming from on this. LOL Last year I had a new cooker, my choice, but there was plenty of life left in the one coming out. I scrubbed it from top to toe. OH gave it to the next but one neighbours. Fare enough, it was out of my way, but the neighbours. Well, Onslow quickly comes to mind, only a thousand times worse. They actually grow car parts in their front garden, would you believe, and sometimes even sleep in the cars piled up on the front path.
